I loved the original first Settlers game and when the sequal was released it was like a revelation. I lpayed countless hours of Settlers 2 and played through the campaign just about once every year. I've read every guide, every walkthrough and talked to the developers back in the early days of Gamescom. It is true that some information and mechanics are a bit obtuse. That's why I took the time and tested everything that was unclear. And one conclusion was: yes, even the official manual and 3rd party printed guides lie to you, probably because they didn't know any better. I could answer every question you have about the gameplay. But to give you 2 bits of info you frequently question: (1) The mission story texts don't always match the actual map because there were last minute changes after QA to map layouts and enemy placement and no one bothered to update the text blurbs, which were narrated in the german original so they would've had to bring back the narrator. (2) It's only mostly a rumor that ships don't work if you have too many of them. This is a quite persistent opinion in the community because it is already brought up in the manual of the original release and every release since. However they aren't as bad as most people make them out to be. My advice is: have 1 ship per connection between your main port and each "colony" but no more than 4 total. In other words [number of ports] - 1 = [recommended number of ships] < 5 I could even explain how the AI manages the distribution and transport of wares between ports but that would make this post way too long. If someone wants to know, contact me and we could exchange via e-mail.

I can't wait when you try the Anniversary Edition (yes, WHEN not IF, I believe in you ;)) and discover all of the QoL things that must frustrate you right now. After your last video I finally purchased the Gold Edition from GoG but I could stand it only for 2 hours, then I went back to AE. AE has 3rd speed option, you can upgrade your military buildings if the terrain allows it, you can evacuate soldiers from them as well and they will keep their territory. If you hit someone with catapult, you will see what rank you hit, if you destroy your own building, you will get some planks back (so you won't get stuck if you forget to build forester early on). AE has it's own quirks as well, most notably the too quick/annoying day/night cycle where you can't really see much in the night but that could be disabled in the menu. Another thing is that you need much more food for your mines and each type prefers different type of food (apparently). This could be fixed through some unofficial patch. Until then, good luck (and patience) with this one :)

This level is somehow easier compared to levels 5 and 6, but nearly as tedious as those two. There are plenty of resources except maybe coal and stone. You will thrive on iron and gold. I ended game with 100 unused coins. Enemies don't even attack you until you start attacking them (with troops). Stone is the key here, you know why: catapults!!!! I reached a point in which I wasted all rocks and granite mines, I couldn't even build new stuff except barracks. I spent so much time defeating the yellow player only to find that..... stargate was not there. So after some crazy troop management (seriously this game drives me crazy) I sent all my army to west and voila!!!! P.S. I dont know what would I do without the Alt+6 "cheat" although I usually play at Alt+3 speed.
@Camponotus1002 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is, that you are not fast enough and the enemy have enough time, also the catapult style ( which i dont believe was intended) give them even more time. At the start baracks, only guardhouse/tower if the barracks wont reach enough. At the start, you have to get land by all means. From HQ, no attacks possible, The materials are distributed and not only when you have more than the building can store... The viwers give you so much wrong informations, its sad that you are often under wrong assumptions and frustrated.

You can prevent the gold coins distribution from the HQ if you click on the icon within HQ (once or twice, I don't remember). Also the farmd have to be spread out a bit further, no roads or buildings in their immediate vicinity or they won't be 100% efficient.

The way those fortresses determine where your borders are really is strange... makes me think all your "frontline" fortresses contribute to building up "border pressure" and if you burn one farther back you have less pressure, thus the 3 yellow towers exert more pressure, allowing them to burn your catapults...

@GamerZakh2 жыл бұрын
Haha only if they actually apply to S2 and not another Settlers game.
@Malins20002 жыл бұрын
@@GamerZakh sure :) I spend a lot with S2 but not much with other parts :) 1 - S2 is a game of balance. You need soldiers, then move production of coal to support Iron Smelters/armories. You cannot just randomly place things in hope they will work. you will end up with "why we have no soldiers, while having 7 coal mines?" well.. to much of gold production ate up all your coal. 2 - For each coal consumer you need one Coal mine (so, for example 2 Iron Smelters, 2 Armories and 1 Mint needs 5 coal mines in total to work good) 3 - same goes for grain production and consumption (1 mill need one farm. 1 bakery needs one mill) 4 - to produce soldiers you need brewery and armory (beer, sword and shield) - put them close to warehouse/castle to optimize production 5 - when you expland from your castle build warehouses and wood/stone production close too it. It will allow to store building materials closer to border. Thus, buildings at border (new Forts or guardhouses) will be construdcted faster. 6 - expand with barracks. they build faster and only with wood, which is renewable resource. Good armory optimization will allow you to keep soldiers count up) 7 - when you see the neemy, then start build bigger buildings like Forts. Remember - stone is valuable 8 - build warehouse need food production places 9 - keep things in groups. I mean - designate area to produce food only (Farms, Mills bakeries) but keep forestry away - trees compete for area to grow with grain. Keep brewery close to warehouse where aromories are - but not far from grain. 10 - Tweak transport priority. For me most importantly is to transport wood and stone first (to build things faster), then coal, iron, weapons, food, gold.
@Malins20002 жыл бұрын
@@GamerZakh actually one more thing. when you see enemy millitary buildings with just one guy inside it's a perfect oportunity to strike - Because there will be no reinforcements from other guardhouses. Send out the attack with target max capacity + 1 dude. your soldiers will take the building and fill it up. This allow you to lunch another attack deeper into enemy lands. That way you can even cut enemy in half grately reducing its capabilities. Later you can always burn conquered military buildings to get soldiers back and prevent enemy from reconquering. But damage has been done! also when you are attacked and about to loose, you can burn your millitary building after last defender is defeted, but enemy soldier not yet enter the bulilding - But your clicks has be fast! That will prevent from annoying reconquering lost fortress for example ;)

It is such a pitty what they did to the settler series after the 4th game. They clearly went down the RTS route which most old settler fans however didn't enjoy that much. Now they wanted Settlers 8 to return to its roots but the alpha and beta's were just ... don't talk about it. Now that its delayed to unforseeable future let's hope that they are somehow able to get the game right. It's clearly visible that Ubisoft and BlueByte had two different takes on where the game should evolve into an the compromises both had to make was just the wrong decision for that game and the players in general
