Thank you so much for these reviews! I tried the Cobras, and I do like them, but now I’m thinking about trying a few Daniel Smith’s. I was wondering if you could describe their smell? Do they have a strong smell? I get migraines sometimes and I can’t handle really strong smells. Thank you in advance! I really appreciate your comparison videos!

Hello, I wouldn't say that their odor is that strong but they do have a smell similar to Windsor and newton water mixable oils and maybe a small amount of Liquin if you've ever used that. It's not too bad in a small quantity but I found myself getting headaches when I had 10-15 paintings with it drying in the same room which made the smell much stronger. I assume the smell is from whatever they add to get the drying time so low but can't say for certain.

@@PaintByNate thank you so much! We spend so much money on art supplies, it really helps save money. Most people don’t mention the smell when you are looking for reviews. I appreciate your help!

Hi and thanks for the reviews! I like that you are going over the pros and cons of each brand, but I didn't catch which brand you liked the best and why. I have a lot of the Winsor and Newton, but was looking into trying another brand, I was thinking of the Daniel Smith because I use their watercolors and know those are good. Thanks for sharing, and helping us artists save some money!

Thanks for watching! The brand I've been using is Grumbacher max because it's the thickest and has a lot of the uncommon pigments I like using like phthalo green yellow shade and mars black. I also really liked the Daniel Smith and Cobra brands. Daniel Smith dries really fast which is a nice quality and has very strong pigment but isn't as thick as Grumbacher which is why I ultimately didn't use it.

@@PaintByNate Thank you for the recommendation! I haven't used oil paints in a few years, and my Winsor and Newton water mixable oils are getting old. You are right they are hard to get all of the paint out of the brush. Since then there seems to be new brands making the mixable oils. I saw a lot of good reviews for the Cobras, but I noticed that The Daniel Smith is fairly new to the market and don't have as many colors to choose from. I'm going to check out the Grumbacher Max and see what they look like. Thanks again!

It's very hard to get some Windsor and Newton paints where i live but i do hav one set left with me. Can I mix Daniel Smith with Windsor and Newton since I hav some pigments missing?

That's a good question, I've mixed different brands of paints during my practice live streams and most of them have dried ok but a few of them have cracked because the different brands dry in different times. So I'd say if it's for practice then you can mix them and you'll be fine but just know that they might crack over time.
