Valente Brothers presents a Rickson Gracie tribute. The video, created by brothers Pedro, Gui, and Joaquim Valente, is a tribute to Master Rickson Gracie, one of the best representatives of Jiu-Jitsu of all time. This video was presented to Master Rickson during his Miami seminars on March 27 an 28, 2010. The Valente Brothers Pedro, Gui, and Joaquim, are Hélio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belts and grew up on the mats with Grandmaster Hélio and his sons.

For those of you trying to diminish his accomplishments and his skill, I ask you to find ONE person who has rolled with him who wasn't completely amazed. Just one quote from a person who sparred or competed against him that wasn't in awe at how good he really was. Every BJJ black belt and champion will tell you he is the best of all time. Dave Camarillo, Paulo Filho, Fabio Gurgel, Werdum, Pedro Sauer, Mark Schultz, Cao Valente, even Chuck Norris (who has a BJJ brown belt) have been quoted as saying they could do NOTHING with him. The list is endless. They were all blown away when they rolled with him. Not to mention EVERY Gracie member claims he is the best in the family. Was his MMA career on par with Fedor, Anderson Silva or GSP? Of course not. Should his Jiu Jitsu accomplishments and technique be revered and respected? Absolutely!

scottmanhardt Rickson grappling is fantastic. his self mastery of his mind and body as well.Same can be said about Karl Gotch, Kazushi Sakuraba, Josh Barnett, the latter two being very dominant against even the top BJJ practitioners. Sakuraba if you ever grapple with him. Is very injured but he has a rare ability to relax deeply and attack. CACC rules!

I've trained with several Gracies. Royler is exceptional, both as a coach and competitor. Royce is also a high calibre grappler and a warm and generous person, his SD training is great. Rickson is on another level. He has the uncanny ability to make you recall with clarity what it was like as a white belt, no matter what your rank may be. He shuts down everything you try. Those escapes you learned don't seem to work, and with every movement you make you sink deeper and deeper into a hole. His submissions are insanely quick, and I don't mean his physical movement. His angle and torque are so precise, you barely have time to tap. I've known nothing like it in all my years on the mat, and I'm Rickson's age, and I started early.

Rickson is THE guy when it came to the world seeing MMA & BJJ at it's highest level for me in his era. He pushed his body like Bruce Lee did, and he never stopped trying to improve upon it. My six year old son trains under Ricksons's 2 daughters Kuaun and Kaulin at Gracie North in Yakima WA. We've met Royler, Royce, Ceasar, and Kron. We've been there 2 years and the instruction is top notch. Now my son also trains with Breno Bettencourt, another top notch grappler. He also trains there under Bong for kickboxing. They are teaching my son skills and confidence he will have for the rest of his life. Thanks Gracie family!

Rickson is proof of why all of these "improvements" that people make to the arts are full of crap. Rickson is pure technique and true JuiJitsu. From what I have seen it looks like he uses a soft style of it as well. He doesn't need muscle, he had superior positioning and legendary timing on all his moves. He's the true Gracie, all the others are just following his coat tails.

@@snowrider4495 Rei Zulu, Marco Ruas or Ivan Gomes. Rickson was nothing but a liar and a coward. He run from Sakurava, Marco Ruas, Dan Henderson and any other good fighter that challenged him. On the first fight of his career, against Rei Zulu, he made a bunch of dirty shit to win. He called two prostitutes to distract Zulu from his fight, when Zulu arrived at the ring, they said it was prohibited to kick or punch while on the ground. Zulu contested because he didn't know BJJ and his main offense came from grounding pound, but the Gracies threated to call the police on him, since he was poor and could't get a legal permition to be a vale-tudo fighter. On their fight, Rickson landed several kicks and knees on Zulu, in contrast to the rule imposed by him, but the judge was from the Gracie team and allowed that bullshit to happen. He won in a very disgraceful manner. He said that this fight was Zulu was the most difficult one of his life. In fact it was, because it was the only fight of his life that he was uncertain of defeat. On pride he fought against some unknown fighters, and the japanse wresteling champ that was already in a losing streak due to his age. That would be a good start of a carrer. But for Shitckson, it was its peak. Patethic. He would run from any fight with top fighter to maintain the ilusion of "undefeated legend". That is the only thing that he had. Don't get me wrong, he has a brilliant BJJ, but his MMA is average at best. Sorry for the long text, but I think it is important to contextualize people of how dirty most Gracies were. They are not legends of fighting, they are at most legends of marketing. I am Brazillian, and we know better than anyone else how trash those guys were. Ivan Gomes said that the only decent Gracies were George and Carlos. I would add Calrson. The rest is garbage. So I would like to see those fighter in their prime today so they could kick that running chicken Shitckson Gracie's ass.

Well rounded does not mean that you should neglect anything. The Juijutsu displayed in the MMA is sloppy at best. Good martial artists are few and far between in the sport and the bottleneck those that are allowed entry into it now to allow a narrow range of fighters and styles. MMA is a shadow of its former self from back in the day when they didn't even separate fighters by weight class.
