A ride on Longueuil RTL 9-817! (1997-98 Nova Bus LFS 1st Generation)

It's been some time since we've gotten to posting transit bus content, mainly due to the metro's anniversary and some other rather pertinent news in the transit space. But fret not! We haven't forgotten our roots here at The NovaBUS Fan. So here is a ride on, at the time of uploading, the oldest bus the Réseau de Transport de Longueuil's fleet; 9-817. Much like 9-412 was for the Classics prior to their final retirement, this bus marks the coming end of the 1st generation Nova LFS' on Montreal's South Shore.

I've never been to crazy about 1st gens, but they deserve to be recorded and archived for posterity. Amazing quality as well!

While they certainly had their problems, I've never had a problem with them. Those at the RTL were particularly interesting with the ZF transmissions that didn't rev as high (and made good sounds upon shifting gears).

*Wait the FLS 1st gen is still running today? I thought they no longer exist. The last time i every ride on one of those was almost like years by now. I mean the STM retired those way back before but i can't believe the RTL still run those.*

Both the RTL and STL, along with several other Quebec transit operators, still run 1st gen LFS'. Though it should be noted that they are on their way out with the hybrids now making up a large percentage of buses in the province.

They dont do the same sound as STL 1st gens.. different transmission..?

Yup! Most Quebec transit systems took the Allison transmission option. Longueuil, after 1996, stuck with ZF until 2007 for the LFS.

Oh nice, CITL in 06 and 07 took the ZF as well then? The sound is similar

That's right. Same platform, but with 6 speeds.
