The Atmosphere of Kirby 64 - like many N64 games - was somehow just so mysterious and captivating. Especially the dark levels in the later section felt so moody. I love it!

nightmare in dreamland is disliked because it removed the look of the platforms that are meant to represent tree branches/roots, palm trees, or background hills, and replaces them with flat line platforms, or wooden blocks without a corresponding tree in the background and the rotation of Butter Building is completely removed

Great reviews! I really enjoyed Kirby 64 back in the day. I remember renting and beating it without getting all shards and noticing the creepy look on the queens face. Sadly I had to return it before I could get the real ending. Nice to finally see it after all these years

I vividly remember beating crystal shards the first time and seeing that loo she gives the camera. I just knew even as a little kid that I had to collect every shard to find out what that meant

Interesting tidbit. For some reason, people took the scene in Crystal Shards where Dedede snatches the shard from Kirby...very harshly. For some reason, a good amount of people hated Dedede for this stupid and petty scene, alongside the overly simplistic plan of stealing Dreamland's food and not even being consistent with being a villain. I guess there's a reason why the creators of those videos have either looked down upon their old creations, or deleted their old content or even their entire channels. I know opinions change, but sheesh.

To be fair, I think Dark Matter is basically a catch up term for everything that is Dark Matter-related, but yeah, the incarnation of Dark Matter as a whole and not just whoopy substance is Zero; and as the master mind, Dark Mind is it's counterpart.

It's really sad to know that Shimomura didn't direct any more games after those. Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Crystal Shards are my favorite games in the Kirby franchise. It was so much fun for me to experiment with the combinations of abilities. Does anyone know of any games with similar mechanics to those in these two games?

My explanation for Adeleine...Is that she's another of Kirby's people who swallowed Ado. But Ado's personality was too strong, so now that Copy Ability version of her is a new individual... Ado is too powerful to be fully subsumed. One day, she will return.

To add some extra stretch branches to the fan hypothesis about Dreamland being an Astral plane linking all Nintendo properties..Ribbon star is a big pink heart containing a child princess and little fairy companions..hmmmmmmmm..also, the final villain sports some familiar looking designed wings after being forced out of the princess...HMMMMMMMMMMM...I wonder what potential property this character could be from? Maybe this is a hylian dreaming of her own little kingdom where she is a princess like Zelda? Perhaps it is also worth mentioning that similar eyeball monsters and even Diety level villains to Darkmatter/Zero like Bellum from Phantom hourglass.

if you ever touch upon the anime, be warned that the main character isn’t even kirby, it’s actually this discount lisa simpson girl named tiff, and she’s got the most obnoxious voice acting in the entire dub (and that’s saying a LOT). i heard she’s more tolerable in the japanese version though, but that’s probably because of the (newly redone!) fansub
