Fantastic video. Excellent explanation. You are doing such important work. I wasn't aware the river could die from the mouth up.

Great work! The story of the degradation in the Coorong isn't complete without the story of the South East drainage scheme, 2,500km of man-made drains that extract fresh water to the ocean from wetlands that once flowed to the Coorong's southern lagoon. The South East South Australian wetlands should be included on the map as part of 'one system'.

Just a very short term change. The current flood event is something that happens on average roughly 1 season in 20 since records began. All the years in between are as per this video.

Great video..freshwater is definitely needed....but the lower lakes and lower river were always tidal...the barrages also need to be removed to actually fix the system....The local aboriginals prove this by saying that the mouth has never closed....this was before the barrages were built.....a healthy estuary relies on both freshwater and tidal flow to balance the ecosystem correctly....greed...overuse...establishing farms in flood Plains...all play their part as well...the real solution is the one that actually fixes mistakes of the past and truly puts emphasis on the environment as opposed to the human interests....
