A look at my vinyl pressings of the mid-60s soundtrack ROUSTABOUT. Plus the single that never was.

Hello Again, Yes that is a short album 11 tracks on the LP and 12 tracks on the 8 track. The 12th cut was called "Roustabout" reprise, which was the short version used for the opening credits. They had the first recording "i'm A Roustabout" but Hall Wallis didn't like that. They could have used it as a bonus song. I bought my mono copy in November 1964 with silver RCA VICTOR on the label. I received a stereo for Christmas and my first Stereo LP I bought was Roustabout on January 2cd 1965. That has the new black label with white RCA VICTOR on the label. I have the red vinyl from the Collectables Label box pressings of Elvis Number One Lps.

A nice but disappointing book was released a few years back showing the origins of the photos and artwork of Elvis' albums, EP's etc. I always wanted to know, and the book did not state, who did the artwork for Elvis' records. Example who painted the carnival scene on the Roustabout LP? I did ask the Elvis Shop he didn't know and said RCA would know. I'd like to see that. Love the foreign ones and how they differed. Notice how FTD don't use original background art, just plain photo. Maybe because they don't have original artwork.

Hey Steve, I don't usually watch videos about multiple versions of one album - nothing wrong with it but it's not something I am interested in pursuing with my Elvis collection. But for some reason, I decided to watch this one all the way through. I got my Australian copy of the album out and checked the spelling of those songs - all correct "It's Carnival Time" and "Carny Town". Continued watching, and leant forward to watch when you produced your Australian copy. As I suspected, the cover was basically the same except for the catalogue number (my mono copy is LPM2999), but the record label is quite different. Mine is gold with the RCA symbol and printing in black. At the top of the label is this: " A.A.R.M. Gold Record Award Certified". As this was one of the albums I inherited from a friend who died, I have no idea how she came by this - whether it just happened to be the copy in the shop when she bought it, or whether she deliberately looked for and bought it. Do you have any knowledge of this? Was the album a gold record in Australia only? And by the way, RCA in Australia did release a 45 from the LP - an EP titled "Little Egypt" which was on side 1 with "Poison Ivy". Side 2 is "Hawaiian Wedding Song:" and "Down By The Riverside"

Gina, RCA in Australia did a series of releases of albums and EPs that had been certified gold awards in Australia. They all have the gold sticker on the cover and a gold label. Nice series to collect, but don't see them here in UK. I have the Blue Hawaii though.

@@tcbsince73 Let me know what you are after; the record fairs I've been going to have heaps of Aussie vinyls which I don't look at because I have them already, or the equivalent in CD. I'm happy to keep an eye out for specials for my KZbin friends.
