I, too, am beginning to wonder if someone isn't poaching some of these babies for the illegal pet trade. Bossy and her kids all became a bit too familiar with possible feeders in cars. If there are 2 or 3 people working in tandem, it wouldn't be impossible to snatch a baby here and there. I mean, don't you find it odd that all 3 babies from the royal household are gone, but no one has seen a body?

In wild troops it is normal to have several infant losses in any given year (30-80%). These troops have some contact with humans so the number of losses over the years have been lower than what normally to be expected. Not that it makes it any easier for the viewers when losses do occure. It is odd though that she is engourged and the baby is no where seen but the mother does't seem distressed about it and only intersted in relieving the pressure in her chest. The baby has likely been gone for about a day and she should be calling everywhere for it. Unless it passed and she saw it and compleated the grieving to her need. On a positive note, Dolly's little lady is looking very active and alert which is good. It is looking around and seems very interested in what is going on around her and seems interested in investigating. Dolly seems like she isn't ready yet to let her roam, she maybe a handful but in a good way. 😘

The last mom I saw carrying their deceased baby around was Dimpy very briefly with Rey. Since then I've seen Bo carrying another monkeys dead baby. Gypsy has resorted to nipping off her pressure. Nice to carry around such a useful surplus.

Upon watching this very heartbreaking episode I have to agree with one of the viewers that something just doesn’t feel right! She’s correct the mother’s usually carry their babies for a little while after their deceased right. Also before reading her comment I too noticed they’re very skittish and thought what is going on? I hope an answer will come to light soon before another precious baby goes missing or worse! So sad😢

Sometimes they carry them. Not always. What if it drowned? Or fell off a large cliff which there are lots there. A dog or hog would eat the carcass in an instant of it found it. A bird will easily grab a baby unattended for just a second then off into the sunset. Of all the dead babies over the years we have seen very few of them on film being carried. Most just disappear. The average infant mortality rate for them in that area is as much as 30%. That's way more than the three that are gone this season, at least so far as we know.

It really is the worst with 4 loses. Really soory arroz. I love these babies but you are with them so i know it has to be even more painful for you. That's just silly. They wouldn't carry them for long possibly. And if another animal got there before mom, it would be eaten in a second. Or a bird carried it away. He is out there once a week or so. It would rot into nothing this time of year in the jungle of Hong Kong in a day, three at most. Not so moms carry them either.

It’s so strange that all the babies were wiped out in the royal household. I have a memory of Bessy’s baby looking sick one day, then gone the next. Gypsy’s baby looked lethargic around the same time, but seemed to pull out of it, though now he’s gone, too. 😢 Could it be that there is a virus affecting babies, especially in Bossy’s family? It’s just pure speculation, but I’ve been wondering that for awhile. 😕

People forget 60% of babies don’t reach age one for a number of reasons, 10% of male babies don’t reach adulthood. As sad & heartbreaking as it is, that’s how Mother Nature keeps the population under control. The death rate would be greater out in the wild where there are no feeders coming by on a regular basis & predators are more prevalent. It is what it is & nothing you, I, or anyone else can do abt it.

I would not have thought it is legal to own a Rhesus Monkey in Hong Kong, as a pet, in fact it could well be illegal. But sad to say that does not stop some unscrupulous individuals capturing one as a pet. It is certainly illegal in Cambodia. However, I recall that the Shadi and Shaki videos are from Malaysia, where their owner has a legal document from the authorities confirming that he is their owner. indeed recently he acquired a baby monkey for the family!!

That has been my worry with so many going missing. I know the economy in Hong Kong has tanked and things are getting bad there. It do make me think that someone is seeing all those Cambodian “pet” monkeys and the money those captors are making and figured they could get away with it. It just seems odd that so many babies have turned up missing in such a short amount of time.

I do agree the number is a bit alarming this year, but not all babies survive. Even if this year is 2x the normal, it takes highs and lows to get a ‘normal’ . It could be a combination of things too. Maybe their moms ate something that didn't hurt them because of the amount ingested vs their higher weight while being enough to harm the little ones when passed through their milk? That sounds like a silly cause, but people often overlook environmental causes. I mean that in a broad definition. For example: there was a video where two babies were allowed to walk along the edge of a very steep drop. One could have tumbled over an edge at many places they play. Gypsy was not a smooth ride either_ when jumping up/down,,or tree to tree, she never seemed concerned her baby was holding tight. Bossy’s baby didn't have much hair to hold on to. He may have just slid right off with a few strands of hair in his hand while climbing a tree.

It's such a public place with one way out. In my opinion, there must be places that carry less risk to snatch a baby. If they did so mid-mountain and had to return to parking lot silently. It just seems unlikely somebody would choose the more public option given the frequent walking group, or speeding car.

Gypsy has always been absent from her young baby’s lives. I remember the boy Dopey’s age sitting at Tea Time crying for his mom to come back. Sometimes she'd sit 50-60 yards away and let everybody listen to the constant assault of a baby crying while she sat there with her tongue sticking out (she shouldn't serve as a picture of ‘intelligent species’).

RIP little Bubbly..she was such a cutie..yes as you said possibly preemie as she was so very tiny and her breathing was so rapid the first time we met her. Good point, indeed AM is one of the other four cameramen who video along Monkey Hill, it is my understanding that each cameraman videos at different times during the week and at different locations. However, I suspect that it was either a fatal fall, as AM has suggested, or possibly road kill. A few years ago AM did some stats on the infant mortality rates and he compared them with a research paper which stated that 20% of babies die in the first 6 months from accidents malnutrition or an infection. This increases to 32% after 6 months as the babies get more independent from their mothers. Sad loss.

It looks like something fishy is happening to the babies. I hope you can find out what it is and put a stop to it with the help of the regular feeders. I feel so sorry for the mums with engorged breasts, they hurt like hell! Then the heart ache of a lost baby. They usually drag the dead baby around for a few days and you are not seeing this. Something hinky is going on, right on Golden Hill Road or close to it. Prayers for the monkeys and viewers and especially you. AM.

Not usually. Occasionally. And if something caught it, a bobcat or bird, there's nothing to carry. It's full summer in these videos in the jungle. A baby would rot in two or three days into nothing. And he is only out there maybe once a week, and doesn't even see our troop all the time. I know you wanna blame people but that's just unrealistic. In the wild it would be quite normal to lose 30 to be 60% of the babies every year. Way more than this.

Bubbly is probably with some human that bought her from poachers😢 The poachers lure the inffant with food and also feed the mom. It gives them an opportunity to take the little baby 😒 The new owners usually say the baby was abandoned nd that they rescued it. 😡

Has any babies that were healthy missing from any of the other troops? If they were kidnapped by another monkey we would see that. If a male is grabbing the babies the mothers would have defensive wounds on them more than likely. They’re going to fight the male somewhat. There’s no way not one mother doesn’t have wounds on her body if that’s the case. I don’t know if Gypsy going up to humans. Are the mothers of the missing more trusting in people with food? All the person has to do is give them something they have to hold in each hand and the baby is unprotected and able to be snatched if the person is ready and fast. They jump in their car before mom really realizes her baby isn’t by her and they pull away. But it’d have to be an experienced poacher doing that. Someone who has watched the troops enough to know the easy marks. Or someone incredibly lucky. That’s my thought on that. In Cambodia a money kidnapped has taken baby Alex and was starving him to death. The vos gave the kidnapper food for each hand and they grabbed baby Alex faster than a blink of an eye. The monkeys were all pissed off but after the baby was out of their reach they only grunted and screamed. They didn’t try to go after the baby. The vos gave baby Alex back to his mother incase any of you were wondering. You can still find the videos if you search baby monkey Alex kidnapped or saved ….fyi. I think it’s very likely these babies were all stolen one way or another. Poachers are very experienced at doing this kind of stuff and they could be selling them to be lab monkeys or sell on the dark web. I’m sure they get good money for the babies. I don’t believe anything else happened to 5 babies in the span of a few weeks. Human interference definitely. Damn some selfish greedy people. It’s all great saying karma will get them but it doesn’t save the babies from the nightmare lives they will be going to just to get tossed away like garbage when they aren’t cut or have served their purpose. At times like this I really wonder if there is a loving God.
