I hate to hear this - Spencer you have helped me with so many odd ball issues I cant even begin to describe. You have touched on things no one else has with Google scripts, and I can not thank you enough. If your laptop is older and has never been cleaned out might be worth taking a look. It only takes one well placed fuzzball to muck up the works or even dried up CPU compound will overheat the processors. I'd be glad to take a look at it if you'd like - let me know here in the comments and we can email the details.

Repair place removed a bunch of malware - still had issues. I performed a full drive wipe and Windows reinstall - still having the issues.

@@SpencerFarris One of those good news/bad news scenarios - sorry to hear that. Perhaps the drive is starting to fail, I had an SSD go out recently and it acted similar. Does running chkdsk revealed anything helpful?

@@Brakken99 "Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems." I've isolated it down to programs that use DirectX 10+, but going to DXDIAG shows everything working properly.

@@SpencerFarris Maybe it is working properly the the dxdiag but something changed in a program or windows update that has created a conflict. Can you install an earlier (or later) version of DirectX 10 to see if it makes a difference? It sounds like you are narrowing the field.

I've been having a lot of memory issues with Chrome & Brave. I'm trying Iridium right now (Chromium based), and it runs much smoother and with a lot less memory issues (so far). Try Iridium with no browser plugins to see if you can record that way. You can export/import your bookmarks since it is a Chrome clone.

If this just started happening recently, but the onset seemed pretty rapid, consider removing any recent Windows updates. There may have been a driver update, system update, etc that caused the problem; especially if everything was working fine beforehand.

@@cwlindWX I did a restore back to the first of the year, still have the issue. Chrome is actually fine: it's Steam games and my recording software OBS that have issues.

@@SpencerFarris That sucks. You can always try the Powerpoint hack (if you have PPT installed). At work, I had to record some screen stuff, then voice dub over it. I found in PPT you can record video.. lol Let me know if you're interested and I can explain/

So it's not DEAD - I'm typing this from said computer - but there's something going sufficiently wrong that when I turn on my recording software my entire computer just lags like crazy.

@@SpencerFarris Absolutely. This will always result in a noticeable speed increase and give you piece of mind. However, if it's a hardware issue (say your fan has gathered lots of dust or the thermal paste has warn out, then this will have to be corrected first.)
