An honest look alongside the typical day in the life of getting new customers, seeing current customers and trying to grow the business. I wanted to take the camera behind the scenes so you can see what a salesman is doing on the road.

What you're doing is WHAT your Sales Director should be doing. IMHO you need to make him work harder. Get him a branded shirt that fits him!

TBF, Sales is rarely in charge of cost control, that is usually done by CFO/Operations. Sales isn't in charge of efficiencies, nor do they get rewarded for it. You want your sales guys selling, and any attempt to deviate from that goes poorly.

If that is your sales director, what is he directing? How passive are the sales people then? Not a lot of energy as a sales person.

Must say James loving this page, was dubious at first but you speak so much sense. Regards the Salesman situation a van spare effectively as deliveries could go in to one why not have a van that is effectively a merchandiser in the Southend area? carrying stock to replenish low stocks in stores and to ensure that Rossi product gets prime shelving in the stores? Also getting your new products into local businesses. I think that you would find always an order to be supplied from an experience that I had years ago when a certain battery company used to come and visit a business that I ran, you would always buy something for stock.

Watching this almost made me want to return to sales! So many unexplored opportunities out there. Love the way you get down to it and look at everything and question - the profit from those 2 small boxes going to the restaurant wouldn't cover the cost if the fuel getting them there let alone the van, wages, uniform etc! Wishing you the success you deserve James 😊

James, sell more vegan icecream, it tastes much better than the cruelty version. You can the also promote your business as cruelty free, kinder to animals, better for your health and better for the environment. Be a leader and show others how it needs to be done. (SUBSCRIBED) 👍

Fantastic video. It’s rare that people would have such optimism and excitement watching their business fight the daily struggle. Highlight for me was the connection you made with the gentlemen who runs the family fish and chip shop. Keep it up! Soon see Rossi everywhere… hoping someone watches this video and makes a large order.

James - I though companies like Cadbury's have "Sales Reps" who do the deliveries and put stock on the shelves, thus ensuring that they maximize sales and get pride of place. Could you employ delivery people who are really salespeople - it would cost more but your sales would go up and if on commission they would call into all of the little corner shops you would not normally tackle with an email? Your existing delivery staff could deliver to places where there is no customer facing (or where the shop really is on board) where you are unlike to be able to increase stockholding. Every contact with the customer is a chance to promote/sell a little more!

Hello James, Just watched this. For you to obtain new customers, they need to timely respond to enquiries etc from new customers in particular, and existing customers too. I am still waiting for a response from before Chirstmas. Great video, by the way.

Have you considered your Sales Director having a sign written car or van to advertise the brand as he visits all your customers and potential locations? What about a referral scheme for existing customers so they get a kick back for recommending your brand to others, we all know that the industry talks! Short term consignment stock of sweets and coffee could work, especially in those garden centres, reduces the risk to their organisation. Finally, sounds like you have the facts and figures to justify people stocking your goods, so are they being used in the pitch? Great work though, door knocking was my greatest, but also hardest part of early years in sales.

Great video! My personal opinion, the sales director is poor and comes across too complacent. The points you made to drive up sales, he should already be doing, that’s the reason he was hired. He should have strategies in place to target the smaller businesses as they set up a good solid foundation for the business.

How about instead of leaving samples offer a starter pack of goods on sale or return basis. Some sweets, coffee, ice cream etc. Try this with a few stores, they will hopefully sell the product and start ordering. If it works you can roll it out further, if it doesn’t it’s cost a few quid.

The biggest takeovers from this video 1. Instead of focusing on increasing new customers, retarget old customers to increase long term business relationships. 2. A marketing strategy to offer a free gift to the loyal customers so they feel valued which means they are most likely to stay longer with you. 3. When starting any business you have to make sure you know it inside and out to always make improvements. 4. Letting your customers know you are constantly upgrading your products can generate more demand. 5. Entrepreneurship can break you due to unexpected energy prices increasing and also very hard months without sales etc so always stay consistent and invest smart into the right things for example marketing

You want to get your Rossi ice creams into those milkshake bars that pop up everywhere. There’s loads of them and they go through ice cream like nobody’s business. Should also be running Instagram and TikTok ads for your leisure businesses. Lots of eyeballs for minimal cost if done correct. Nice video as always, I like the honesty, show the failures as well as successes.

Great video! I see/hear so many small business owners not willing to go out get their feet on the ground to drum up business, it’s refreshing to see that an enterprise as large as yours with the history of Rossi still can hugely benefit from going to see these premises! 💀 🇬🇧 🪟 👑
