Thanks for uploading this. Dick Cavett is obviously under-appreciated by the "under 50 set", but he was and remains the greatest talk show conversationalist of all time. His guest list is simply amazing and without peer: especially considering that he usually had conversations that lasted 30, 40 and even almost 90 minutes ! Unheard of today.

There will never be another man as brilliant and witty as Dick Cavet.! He was (is) another once in a life time phenomenon. Some of us were very fortunate to live in (I believe) the greatest times in entertainment and intellectual history...Cavet leading the pack.

Never missed an episode, great interviews of the day.

Carson had entertainers, Cavett had the creators and the artists. He could engage anyone in conversation, from Ali to Mostel. It is a treasure trove of videos to see the people whose shoulders the current generation stand upon. Never has there been a show as eclectic in personalities as Dick's and probably never will there be.

Now we get Colbert, who insists that every guest prove they are as virtuous as him and if they don’t they bomb in front of his wretched audience.

Almost 6k views and only 51 "likes"? Dick was correct about today's audiences with their short attention span.

Cavett interviewed John Lennon and George Harrison but once had to admit that he was in fact never a fan of rock music.
@Pulsonar4 жыл бұрын
Jimvanhise He interviewed Hendrix too, Cavett knew the other side of his guests so well that he made them feel so comfortable. It didn’t matter whether he was into their craft or not.

To be fair, like Michael Parkinson in the UK, he was blessed by being at peak popularity when Hollywood legends from the golden era were still in good nick, rock legends with something to say were abundant and the television medium was receptive to long, ponderous, poetic interviews rather than merely promoting a celebrity's new product. I like Cavett but wow what a guest list he had. No other time in popular culture history could've been better for him. That said, his interview with Fred Astaire is a stinker. Michael Parkinson was a better interviewer in the 1970s.

....Cavett's closing comments about Steven Colbert: prescient. Colbert, in his own personality, is, in so many ways less "funnY....but more truthful, intelligent, focused.
