In this video, I scout West Woods as the vibrant Spring colours transform the landscape. With a Nikon D850, a carpet of bluebells and far too much choice, I gather some inspiration for some nature photography.
Thank you for watching this video and let me know what Spring photography you've been up to!
If you're on social media, feel free to catch up with me there too!

Courtney, you are a real gem. I always enjoy your adventures, the beautiful images you create, and your totally normal human being way of going about it. Your arrival in the forest by teleportation was cute, and adds a bit extra to the enjoyment of your videos. Very nice, once again.

Courtney....it's the same as here in Texas with our fields of Bluebonnets. They are beautiful and captivating but five shots in have become so-what. The trick as I've found it is to use those elements that you would normally be drawn to - an old odd stump, a crusty old building half fallen that makes you wonder about who built it and why it was abandoned, a fence line and gate that display years of quiet service...and compose around those as you normally would but have the parenthetical of the blooms as background/foreground decoration to splash about the image instead of being the objects of focus.

Your videos always make me smile more often laugh out loud . So enjoyed the blue bells the wind can be so frustrating getting those micros happens here at the Marshwalk in South Carolina that i have now started to bring a wind tarp I normally use for my beach days with my grand kiddies .sometimes it works and others not too much . Better luck next week hopefully it doesn't rain every day . Stay dry

Courtney there is something wonderfully simple and accessible that you do with these videos that resonates with the experience of us 'normal' photographers, and yet at the same time is profoundly inspiring. I like the 9x16 image best....I think, but then switching back and forward between them the square crop is beginning to grow too. Now, if only I could fix my teleport machine (it needs a flux capacitor or something) I'd could be off to my own woods in between dad taxi duties!

Another great video Courtney. Loved the teleport at the beginning. Like you said there is only so many photograph's that you can take of bluebells, then it gets boring. You captured some really nice image's as usual.

Some of the blue bell images would make ideal note cards. I liked the image of the bottom of a tree trunk with a few blue bells in focus (approx 4:25) the best.

Courtney, the photograph of the 9:28 bluebells up against the beech tree is sensational. Because the beech bark is relatively ‘smooth’ with its silvery/grey hue, it makes the colour and texture in the bluebell flowers stand out. I miss bluebells and in the 23 years of living in New York, I have only once been back to England during bluebell season. I think I could sit in a bluebell wood all day. There is a carpet of Spanish bluebells in Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, which are not quite the same, but I might get myself over there this weekend to look.

Beautiful images and the blue bells are incredible. I think I liked the blue bells and bark shot best. Wind is the bane of macro flower shooting. It seems to always pick up soon as I compose a shot! It's been rainy here in California as well. So sick of it. No really warm days yet but they are coming. Thanks for the hike in the woods Courtney!

Hi Courtney thanks. It is the effort that matters. As in life so too in photography we need some luck.like favourable weather.as you know Blue bells are notorious to photograph. Best luck next time. Your fern was the best.best wishes. One tip for you will be to check the weather in BBC and Clear Outside . Clear Outside gives you Cloud cover Wind Humidity.

Nice watch. Know exactly what you mean about the blue bell thing - sometimes as much as they look great it can be very samey.. loved the shot of the bark n bluebells btw - so this year I was actually thinking og giving them a miss. Then yesterday out on a drove I passed the patch I normally photograph and could resist a look. Didn't take many images but had a wonderful wander around in the rain, dappled light and some thunder - wonderfully atmospheric.. at one point I pressed record on the canmera and captured the scene for abt 35 seconds - a mix of dappled liught, blubells, thunder and birdsong.. it made my day. I am due out tomorrow so might come across bluebells but atm the spring greens are what are attracting me to the woods. Beautful array of bluebells on that 1st wood you visited... atb Al

I had exactly the same problem with the wind (weather, not the other sort!) the other day. In the end I managed to use myself and also my camera backpack at 90 degrees to form a wind baffle. It worked long enough to get the close up, but it is a nightmare focussing when everything is swaying! Great video, looks like a wonderful location for spring.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful images and, adding some humor. Your location seems magical. Keep thinks about your macro image; the wind is a problem. I shoot grasses and lavender have the same problem. Someone suggested I should make use of the wind for a blurred abstract look. Have you tri😅wind shield? Long lens isolation maybe. Don’t want to spoil your a ha moment. So I anxiously await your sure to be interesting solution(s). 🙏🏿🙏🏿

We have bluebells here in the states but they don't grow wild in such large patches at least not where I live. But we do have other blue wildflowers that grow in patches or small groups that are quite pretty to look at. As the warm seasons progress we have what I consider to be a predictable perhaps unique cycle of flower colors in my part of the country it starts with the magenta/pink blossoms soon joined by yellow and as they start to fade the whites and blues start by this time it's pretty much a free for all till it gets closer to autumn then the magenta/pink flowers are back joined by the yellows again with the small white daisy like blossoms being the last right up to the first real frost. as a treat those last blossoms will sometimes turn a light blue, lavender,or even a reddish pink. unfortunately I have to work and that nasty four letter word interferes with my ability to actually enjoy this hobby but that retirement days coming soon then the boss can just go...lol you can fill in the blanks😂
