@@karlhnedkovsky5214 Honestly, I only wished he didn't state that Etika is not suffering from a mental illness, that's pure deniability of the truth. By not addressing Etika suffering from a mental illness you're not spreading the awareness it needs and is the exact reason Etika why had gone through what he did. He most likely suffered from a hereditary mental illness or some type of bipolar disorder, but TriForce still continues to avoid that truth. Which is why it's hard for me to take his message seriously even though he is speaking about very important things that has definitely been going on. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike TriForce I just dislike his way of speaking about mental illness like it's not a thing. The more we pretend Etika was normal and had no mental health problems the more we won't be able to see the red flags when another situation like this ever happens. Mental health is real and should never be swept under the rug or be not taken seriously.

He's in denial too, like please show me the statistics for not mentally ill people who have killed themselves. Just cuz you are mentally ill don't make you crazy, his misunderstanding of this is the problem, depression is a mental illness. Number 1: You don't have to be sane to realize you aren't sane. 226+ people are in denial. (By the way, I've been a psychiatrist for five years as of next month, don't listen to some guy who hasn't studied psychiatry on mental health. Also I'm calling his bluff on saying he did study psychiatry ) No one could have helped him, when you reach that low of a point in your life ONLY you can pull yourself out, no one should blame themselves. KZbin is so full of grieving fans, I see people lashing out of sorrow and people all telling different sides and trying to figure out what went wrong and who to blame. And that's why I hate this current "meme-internet-culture". They don't take things seriously, they just want to see what they like and never try to understand consequences of their own actions. And what do we have at the end? The consequences, oh boy. It's like at first the mass has an opinion which is indisputably right (that irony) and then they're wondering why some things happen afterwards. It actually makes me really angry. But well... we have to move on :v

Definitely, if kids understood who they were and had more experience they'd understand that doing this is not appropriate. This situation needs to be talked about for years, and shouldn't be forgotten about, insensitive behavior isn't cool, nor is being edgy at the expense of others. If people keep blinding themselves from criticism by saying "It's satire." or "It's just a joke." when and where will we ever draw the line, on what is justified or not. There's a lot of gaslighters on the internet, that lack true wisdom but have knowledge, wisdom in my opinion is the application of knowledge in a concrete and stable way. So many of these kids learn so much about all these different topics, and genres but never ever learn about themselves, what makes them tick or what they want in life. Hence why the suicide rates are going up as of recently. Self love and self respect goes a long way in understanding how much your thoughts, words and actions can affect others, until people realize this and spread that awareness we won't fix the problem. For everyone in the comment section enraged by the Etika situation, turn that rage into love and spreading awareness. Don't watch or encourage bullying regardless of whose in the right or not. Be there for your fellow man, your friends and your families. It's sad that it takes a death of someone who we didn't take seriously for everyone to wake up and realize cruelty isn't the answer, so I hope that people are more aware when you see red flags when someone is going through something, even if they're a KZbinr.

@@bruhyote132 dont know if yer calling me a dense bitch or saying that rhetorically.. You can lament toxic kids lack of respect all you want, but as long as the internet remains unfiltered, anonymous, and unchecked you change nothing. Toxic people will be toxic and they are here to stay. Thats why im saying if you want to protect yourself, you cannot take anything personal on the internet. But judging from your name i assume thats very hard for you to do. And that was one of etikas biggest flaws. He couldnt disconnect and disengage from the toxic people of the internet. The more he fed into them, the more he consumed himself.

I shared similar sentiments to what you had. Always felt the "help" his friends were trying to force on him was doing more harm than good. Imagine having police bust in your house, forcibly restrain you, parade you on the street and ship you to a mental ward. How humiliating and stress-inducing! Even though people used etika to promote "mental health"; who likes being labeled mentally ill!? Especially from your friends and loved ones. Now you wouldn't even feel like seeking comfort and help among friends because they would just label you ill and send you to the funny farm again. Then above all this he has to worry about maintaining his image for streaming to make a living. That's an extreme amount of pressure and anxiety to live with. When I first saw his bizarre posts and breakdown, rather than mental illness it looked more like an extreme way of venting a lot of pent up stress and shit in his life. And now after hes dead friends and fans are flooding the internet with tributes and love; something that could've been way more help or potentially saved him while he was alive. I definitely agree with you that he needed a better circle of people who could truly support and ground him during his anxieties, instead of having people call the cops on you and send you to the mental ward, where most of times you will just be put on a strict diet and on meds. Shame he could not receive the help he really needed.

I just want to tell you that in his videos, the internal conflict matches the description you give. And of course only experience is capable of knowing this, like you said, he was deeply influenced. The problem is that he wanted to be influenced by them simply because he wanted to maintain his lifestyle. In spanish we have a phrase that says "Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres" which can be tranlated to "Tell me who are you surrounded with and I will tell you who you are". “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” As Darren Hardy writes in The Compound Effect: “According to research by social psychologist Dr. David McClelland of Harvard, [the people you habitually associate with] determine as much as 95 percent of your success or failure in life.” I would like the NYPC to do a deep search of his social media influence. But I guess I am not any relative or so. One thing is for sure... He inspired me and I use to watch him for dozens of hours because I admired him a lot.

I think it was a product of habits, his environment, and the toxicity of his fanbase, and him pushing away the people who really cared about him and were concerned. Evolution doesn't counter depressive genes. Depression is a mental illness, an anomaly. It occurs spontaneously, at random. Evolution cannot combat that. Same with cancer, tumors, etc. All these things have existed since humans, and evolution cannot combat them. They evolve along with people.

Anna Cark I absolutely don’t want to make light of your situation or his. However ever since I started questioning and looking up what caused my own chronic illness and why I had no real joy in my life. I discovered that a metric ton of woes are caused by the first world we live in. If the hypothesis of (Some people just are born with depression) would be true. You’d see permanently depressed people in aboriginal tribes. You won’t find them. The main reason being they don’t eat any processed sugary food. Also they eat a ton of meat. Furthermore. Depression being related to low serotonin or dopamine production in the brain is purely an hypothesis. « Chemical imbalance » causing chronic depression is merely a claim. You don’t have to be a victim. Your depression or any other illness MUST not define who you are. Believe in your body’s power to heal by itself. If anyone know someone with depression or have depression themselves. You must stop listening to doctors and take health into your own hands. A few good way to start would be to look up some of these terms on KZbin. Such as: •Dr.Bergman depression •Snake Diet •Carnivore Diet

Etika said so himself, he only wanted to protect his image and doing so made him choose many wrong decisions. However, he emphasized how the media can mess people up. Thank you TriForce, Etika was my favorite KZbinr and hearing this was just what a fan like me needed.

Thank you for your perspective. I saw a few of Etika's videos in the past (didn't watch his live streams), and I loved his reactions to seeing some new games, and just being excited over things I loved too. He had a genuine passion for things, and it showed. I may have been a true fan of his had I followed him more. I don't know what difference it would have made, if any, but now I miss him. I certainly wish things didn't turn out the way things did, as he did not deserve this. It sounds like there were some genuine fans of both you and Etika that would have loved to see some kind of collaboration. I never saw Etika as some clown, but someone with a lot of heart. RIP, Etika.

I've seen these kinds of people in his community. Even on discord. They had no sense in reality. Absolutely none. To them that all was a game. Spraying insults and clown emotes around, calling "nibba be dead" or other disgusting slurs in the chat, on discord or on twitter. This is a problem, not only in Etikas community but in general. Please listen: Every word you say, every word you write has WEIGHT on it - has an impact on other people - just because you don't see them personally doesn't mean that it won't hurt them. Please - even if you enraged - take a moment before you type furiously words on your keyboard atleast sometimes. I'm so unbelieveably heartbroken about this whole situation, but i think that makes sense. Maybe i'm not agreeing to all of it, but i believe you, since you knew him in person - even talked to him and i don't. Thank you for your statement to all of this Triforce. I hope you're doin well! Thank you, TriForce. This is the truth as I know it too, after the multiple discussions I had with him last year prior to shit hitting the fan in October. He was overworked and under-appreciated by the influx of volatile followers that just saw him as a dancing clown. I wish it hadn't come to this on any front, but I implore people to understand this wasn't an issue of mental illness, but the nature of internet celebrity and becoming attached to your career and your audience so much that it is a detriment to your overall health.

As much as I loved etika...he was never in control of his own life. He was an accessory to his fan base. He made a conscious decision at some point that he was in it for the money...and thats why he was so willing to destroy his own body and mentality, because those were the least important things to him. He was more concerned about making money off his fans than actually being happy. Ive been homeless, and i got out...but id 100% go back to living on the streets, if it meant i could keep my own mind. Etika should have moved to the country and became a farmer...hed still be here. But he didnt yet know what he wanted from life, and he was lost. I have had friends commit suicide, and it was always for the same reason "they couldnt see the real solutions to their problems". Suicide fixes nothing, it just shifts responsibility...

It always absolutely baffled me how people kept saying Etika was “mentally ill”. Every time he did his “crazy” tweets, it was always clear to me that Etika was simply talking to himself out loud. I KNEW that at some point, Etika will eventually break because of all the ridiculous “mentally ill” and “clown” BS he was getting. To me, he always seemed as an incredibly strong person, mentally and emotionally. But at the end of the day, he’s a human being, he can only handle so much. This outcome, is absolutely heartbreaking, yet, somehow, it was very clear something disastrous was going to happen because of all the crap those toxic, blind idiots were doing to him. Thank you TriForce for always being the voice of reason, realism, and TRUTH. Wish I could like this video a thousand times over. Rest In Peace, both Desmond & Etika, absolute legends.

Your post is well-intentioned but screams ignorance towards mental illness. It’s not about being strong, it’s about chemical imbalances going on in the brain. Etika displayed many strong signs of bipolar disorder, even during the good times, and I think even Alice had confirmed it at one point. Honestly, Etika’s fanbase was toxic as fuck and there’s no doubt the income thing got to him (I actually made a post about that angle somewhere else). Still, stress is a main factor in people developing mental illness in the first place. I feel horrible for Etika and TriForce because of the peer-pressure kiddie shit mentality that has taken over these influencer cliques. Having mental illness is not something that should be lumped in with the clown shit; it’s not something that should be ashamed of. All that does is further add to the stigma.

I agree with a lot of what this video says, but I also want to clarify what others in the comments have already said before; Mental illness isn't synonymous to insanity. The definition on this video is misunderstood. The pressure and stress on Etika to live and the expectations he felt like he had to live up to was already a sign of his mental wellness. Being conscious of your mental health doesnt equate to being mentally well. As someone who experienced depression myself, you can still be completely rational and conscious of your mental state and still be prone to suicidal thoughts. I feel this needed to be said again because people need to realize that mental illness is not and should not be a label for people with raw insanity, but for people with unhealthy thoughts, ideas, and behaviors that affects their livelihood. Etika was definitely not mentally well and I don't think it's right to dismiss that. His life on youtube and social media was just a big contributor to it.
@helko1
@helko1 5 жыл бұрын
You're actually wrong on that, it's exactly because of reason of opening up the terminology of mental illness that problems like these exist. Etika's mental health was bad but he was not mentally ill, there is _and should be_ a huge distinction between the two. Mental illness something is constant something that doesn't get fixed or go away because at the end of the day when you have a mental illness, something is wrong with you, you are permanently broken. I have depression and anxiety, I also have unhelpful thinking habits. But the unhelpful thinking habits aren't specific to me, anyone can have unhelpful thinking habits, but the difference between me being depressed and a normal person is that they are not constantly prone to having their thought pattern be that way whereas I am. When they do it, it's a sign of bad mental health, not because they are mentally ill. When I do it it's because I am mentally ill and so I constantly have bad mental health. Etika's issue was situational, that's why all this talk of "he's mental ill" never worked with him, he was in a bad place mentally for sure but just because you're in a bad place mentally doesn't mean you're mentally ill. The real problems are the after effect of the romanticism of mental health issues and the sickness that is social media.
@OhManDude
@OhManDude 5 жыл бұрын
@@helko1 who's to say that it wasn't a constant for etika? Being prone to a thought pattern doesn't mean it always has to be visible. Who's to say he didn't have these constant thoughts for a long time and nobody knew about it? I agree that social media is a problem, but I also believe that it contributes to mental illness and bad mental health in conjunction.
@OhManDude
@OhManDude 5 жыл бұрын
@@helko1 I do acknowledge that bad mental health and mental illness are two different things though. But in the case of Etika it could be either or. Like I mentioned, nobody can say for certain that Etika never harbored these kinds of dark thoughts constantly for a long time, or if it was a "situational" thing like you mentioned. (before anyone mentions that Etika said himself he had no intention of killing himself before his final video, that doesn't exclude the possibility of him ever THINKING ABOUT IT.) But it needs to be understood anyway that MENTAL ILLNESS specifically is not synonymous to INSANE or CRAZY.

This video was very real. All of these other videos talking about Etika felt very fake and dishonest. They only talked about Etika the entertainer, but never about Desmond the person. They also pretended to know Etika since birth, while you were honest about your relationship with him. Unfortunately, his death attracted a lot of fakes that will use his name for clout. Thank you for not being one of those fakes. I aggree that social media culture is really bad for people's health. It's very easy to see how peer pressure and the need to impress certain people can hurt someone. First you have the pressure to become big, then you have the pressure to maintain that success. And success brings out the worst in negative fans, as they don't care about the entertainer. As long as they're entertained, nothing else matters to them, and nothing is worse than having your success be determined by people who don't care about you at all. It's unfortunate what happened to Etika.

I remember early on just showed a friend one of my favorite content of Desmond. My friend was immediately like he clown... I was irritated as hell. He was just so positive and real. I felt the toxic shit must be so irritating for him, why people? Why do yo feel so much need to put guys like Desmond down the first second you see him. My friend did not know him at that time. And it’s not a friend of mine anymore. Don’t need people who are so blind to see. How much pressure Des and others have to take just because there is stupid apathetic narcissistic people out there like it’s medieval times. It is unfortunate. I wish Etika could be there with you and get over that shit. But it’s heartbreaking just another great spirit now gone to early. Much love. You are always in company. R.I.P. Bipolar disorder is real, though. Maybe Triforce has never experienced sort of mental issue to that level, but it is fucking crushing and you genuinely cannot help it. The worst part of it is is that even after having a manic meltdown or a depression so bad that it makes you ideate suicide, you can appear to be a grounded, mentally healthy person; not just to others but also to yourself. Every sign of it was there with Etika. The grandiose delusions about himself or the world, impulsive or disinhibited behavior, intermittent and irrational anger, the hypermanic episodes that would send him to the hospital, the depression that made him threaten suicide on multiple occasions. All of these things can and will affect your judgement when you have bipolar disorder. It's hard to explain it to someone who has good mental health, but it's more than a feeling, and it's very difficult to even realize that you're experiencing an episode, which is why it can affect your judgement so greatly. It's like a parasite is inside of your head and it's controlling your behavior and your thought processes. You can't fix a life-long degenerative mental disorder by going to Africa, man.
