Puzzle of the day Two kandidate-moves are interesting from the initial position. Both are bishop-moves. They are 1. ...Be3 and 1. ...Bxf3 The first move leads to this: 1. ...Be3! 2. Qe2(can´t go to c2 because of 2. ...Qxc2) Bxc1 3. Qf2 (must move away from Black´s rook at e8 and prevent checkmate on g2) Be3 4. Qe2 5.Bb6 6. Qd2 Rd8 7. Qe2 8. Rfe8! Now where does the white queen go if she has to prevent the black rook in the e-file to enter e2 on the next move? This was a long way to victory and of course Black can do better. 1. ...Bxf3!! 2. Rxf3 Re1+!! 3. Qxe1 Qxg2# or 1. ...Bxf3!! 2. gxf3 Qg1+!! 3. Rxg1 Rxg1# or 1. ...Bxf3!! 2. Qg5 Bxg2+! 3. Kxg2 Qc6+! 4. Kh3 Rxg5 5. Bxg5 Rg8 6. Rf5 Here Black has 3 good replies: 6. ...h6! (threatens the white bishop that either must fall or allow 7. ...Qg2#) or 6. ...Qe6! (pinning the rook) 7. Kg4 (creates another pin) h6! (the bishop falls) or 6. ...Bxb2! (simply winning a whole rook) Now dear Stockfish please give me a Banana, a red Soda with Raspberry-flavour and a gold-medallion with a diamond, because diamonds are forever as they say in the old 007-movie with Sean Connery and Jill St. John, because I saw all this without using your supernatural powers. ;) ;) ;) By the way I´m sure your CPU enjoyed seeing these long and many lines. Like looking into the beautiful (k)nightsky and it´s many stars with Leela. ;)

@@Stockfish18 I know. That´s also why I said Black can do better after the line with 1. ...Be3. I just found this line interesting as well because Black wins a bishop and then threatens to enter e2 with his rook and the white queen can´t live up to her obligation, which is to prevent checkmate. ;)

Wow, Stockfish, I loved your brilliant analysis! Here is the solution to the puzzle @ 11:20: Here black plays ...Bxf3 The variation could be (gxf3,Qxg1+), (Rxg1,Rxg1++) Another variation could be (Rxf3,Re1+), (Qxe1,Qxg2++) One more variation could be (Rg1,Qxg2+), (Rxg2,Re1+), (Qxe1,Bxg2++) here instead of Rxg2 if white plays (Qxg2,Rxg2), (Rxg2,Re1++) Finally if white plays (Qf2,Qxg2+), (Qxg2,Bxg2++) That's all!

At 11:33 , Solution for puzzle : Bxf3. Now if white takes our white squared bishop he will be checkmated within 3 or 4 moves. Let me explain it in detail :- (First let me tell that white cannot take our black squared bishop as Qxg2 will be checkmate in 1.) 1. If pawn takes on f3 , then Qg1 sacrifice , then Rxg1+ is forced , and finally Rxg1 is checkmate. 2. If Rxf3+ , then Re1 sacrifice , Qxe1+ is forced , then Qxg2 is checkmate. So , these were the two possible ways of white accepting our Bxf3 sacrifice. So white cannot take our white squared bishop on f3. But Bxf3 anyway poses checkmating threat. If black ignores both our hanging bishops and moves anywhere else , then Bxg2 check , Qxg2+ is forced , then finally Qxg2 is checkmate. So , after sacrificing the bishop on f3 , the checkmate is inevitable , as black cannot handle multiple threats after that. By the way , I've observed in this puzzle , except pawns , black 's every piece is involved posing checkmating threats to white king.

Bxf3. Either attempt to capture the bishop on f3 results in checkmate and if white does not capture the bishop then black is going to take the pawn on g2 with check, followed by mate shortly afterwards.
