The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the Queen for a Westminster Abbey service to mark Commonwealth Day.
The royals and senior figures from national life marked the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth.
The theme of this year's event was A Connected Commonwealth, with member countries being urged to protect natural resources and the environment.
In her message, the Queen said the Commonwealth vision "inspires us to find ways of protecting our planet".
Earlier Prince Harry and Meghan visited the Canadian embassy as part of Commonwealth Day celebrations.
The multicultural, multi-faith event at Westminster Abbey saw performances and readings from representatives from throughout the Commonwealth.
Grammy-winning group, Clean Bandit were the first to perform, followed by performances of North Indian dhol drumming, and a solo by an Australian aboriginal musician on a didgeridoo.
The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of York also attended the service.
The Prime Minister Theresa May was in the 2,000-strong congregation, as well as Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Scotland, high commissioners, ambassadors, faith leaders, plus more than 800 schoolchildren and young people.
Cold-water swimmer, Lewis Pugh spoke at the ceremony to appeal for greater efforts to restore the health of the oceans.
Earlier, Prince Harry and Meghan kicked off the celebrations at an event at Canada House, to showcase Canadian talent in the UK.
The couple were welcomed to the embassy by Canada's High Commissioner to the UK, Janice Charette.
In her Commonwealth message, the Queen said the Commonwealth vision "offers hope, and inspires us to find ways of protecting our planet, and our people.
"We are able to look to the future with greater confidence and optimism as a result of the links that we share, and thanks to the networks of co-operation and mutual support to which we contribute, and on which we draw.
"With enduring commitment through times of great change, successive generations have demonstrated that whilst the goodwill for which the Commonwealth is renowned may be intangible, its impact is very real."
The Queen famously dedicated herself to the empire, which later became the Commonwealth, on her 21st birthday in 1947.
The then Princess Elizabeth said: "I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family, to which we all belong."

Alfie Boe is fabulous. I’ve seen him many times in the US and met him after losing my glasses at his first concert sponsored by PBS. When I came back into the theater, he was talking to some people, looked up and said, “Lose something?” He was so sweet because he asked someone to help me find my glasses. Loved the B+ choir! There are SO many voluntary, non-religiously affiliated choral societies in Britain! This is one of the least known, but loveliest aspects of their culture. These guys reminded me of the choir that sang and Harry's and Meghan's wedding. It's lovely to hear, and most inspiring!

Harry and MM immediately got busy making a mess of the BRF and began their TREASONOUS activity according to her plan. (MM is a bonehead and thought they were being given "Frogmore House" which is a beautiful structure but is the Windsor museum and would NEVER go to a couple of non-Royal slobs like Harry and MM. MM later "doubled down" and made up a HORRID LIE that damaged William very badly. Some "stupid gullible goobers" still believe the liar's lies. MM's nasty LIE will hound William, Catherine and their children forever. MI-5 eventually caught MM but the damage was already done to William and his family. HOWEVER, the reaction of the BRF was swift. MM was forced to SIT DOWN AND LISTEN to what would be her reduced status as the "BANISHED" wife of a non-blood royal. She lost NO TIME in booking a flight to British Columbia and hid out on Vancouver Island (in the remote luxury home of a supporter). Harry stayed behind and TRIED to "talk" to Charles (the Queen was long past taking his calls) but NOTHING was "worked out." (Harry knows that Charles is NOT his father, but still tries to play a "guilt" card, as if Harry should be "protected" forever, to stop more damage being done to the BRF by Diana's blackmail methods, now being used by Harry, in the same manner.) Harry's THREATS TO THE MONARCHY had NO impact and he had to leave for Canada, to join his conniving "wife." "Soul mates?" Are you joking? He prefers gents and only married MM to GET RID OF WILLIAM whom he hates. (They are half-brothers, but that "connection" was SEVERED due to Harry's TREASON.)

THE DAHL FOUNDATION DRUMMERS are incredibly SPECTACULAR! The drums reverberating in the massive abbey! WOW! They put on a SUPER colorful display! But that tenor!! HE MADE ME WEAP!! C'est magnifique ! Le mélange des genres, musique religieuses, chamane, soûl, gospel, pop, opéra, splendide, un beau spectacle ! Les royaux ont pris un coup de jeune depuis l arrivée de Meghan, incroyable. Avant c'était très guindé et aujourd'hui, ils s ouvrent aux tendances actuelles. J'ai noté l émotion de Meghan et William lors de la chanson run vers 45min. Ils ont failli pleurer, c'est vrai que le message de cette chanson est fort. Kate et Harry sont resté de glace.. C'est marrant, moi je pense que meghan aurait été l épouse idéale de William, car ils sont pose et réfléchis tous les deux et Harry avec Kate..
