I don't know where i read it, but there's a story about a Techepriest looking at a combat servitor data. The servitor was damaged in combat, and is dying on the floor, the only thing the servitor is thinking about is being a woman who is having her child being forcefully taken from her arms, after that, the woman was taken away desperately crying. The Techepriest looked at that and put it on "irrelevant data" and deleted it.

When the servitors starts to be self aware that means something bad is coming
@johnduquette70232 ай бұрын
Some have to retain self-awareness to do the task to which they are assigned. In the Ravenor novels, they had to take a submarine under an ice sheet on a frozen world, and navigating that ocean was complicated enough that the servitor-pilot reacted to their conversation and gave back-talk. Medicae services are actually fairly complicated, so they may have used a suppression implant on some kind instead of a full rite of lobotomization.

Nah, sometimes the surgery just gets botched and the lobotomy doesn't take all the way, so they retain bits and pieces of their mind. Others, however, are purpose-built as retaining their mind (or at least partially) because their tasks require a higher level of cognisance than your standard braindead servitor possesses. There's a great bit in Rogue Trader where you meet the servitorised mother of a young girl who has become a target for assassination by her wealthy family, and in a brief moment of lucidity, the servitor-mother eviscerates half the family after they try to kill her daughter, burning herself out in the process.

@@ThePresidentofMarsComedy isn’t really the right word. It’s more “familiar”. Darktide is designed with mechanics anyone can grasp and fine details Warhammer 40k fans can appreciate. Fans of the franchise know what an Imperial hive city, one of which serves as the game’s setting, is like (not good). They also know what nurgle corruption (stuff the game’s baddies are doing) looks like. This servitor’s improper mind wipe is firmly in the first category, so despite being terrifying in concept, it’s also a subtle reminder to the player that this is an Imperium spot, not a Nurgle one. Getting turned into a servitor isn't nearly as likely as it is to just find yourself as some random person amidst the countless billions on any one fuedal or hive world. You only end up a servitor as a consequence of bad luck, or from punitive action; this also requires that the enforcers simply dont just decide on a more instant finality for whatever it was that you did

to be fair, it actually shows very accurately the state of the mechanicus in 40k. They're *supposed* to be a lot of things, but often aren't. They're basically like unskilled workers following manual. They don't understand exactly what they're doing and how, and slowly their skill degrades as knowledge is lost or standards fall, especially on fringe worlds, perhaps not as well connected to a major forge world and Martian leadership. Same for space marines. It boggles the mind how many people miss the point of 40k. Its not a power fantasy, it's meant to represent the slow decline and collapse of a thriving society. Although it seems lately they're trying to change that and make 40k more like what people imagine it to be: a power fantasy

I mean the Imperium were initially written as the unambiguous villains of the setting. They're an example of the end state of fascism: religious reverence to a corpse as billions die every day. But fascists are incapable of media literacy and flooded the fandom, and the more recent writers took after them, so now we get attempts to make this obviously evil system the "best option." My opinion? Let the Tyrannids eat everything. Leave the Tau alone, they can have their Greater Good, but everyone else needs to get eaten.

At some point they come across their childhood bedroom and a servitor who’s was basically converted to a life sized clown doll that you’d kind of press buttons and it would do different actions. Out of curiosity they pressed a button and active right back up doing its little routine. Person thinks about how weird it actually is for a moment but how much they loved it as a child. Half considered killing the servitor then and there, but decided not to and just left it to rot and be forgotten.

That could vary from causing irepairable damage to an ancient machine or construction, to being late to work by 5 seconds on the lasgun factory.
