Sigh.. Well, time to lay out the reference board.
CH:
•Scotland
•England
•Wales
•N.Ireland / Ulster
1. "Minimum Unit Pricing"
A law in Scotland used to try and reduce alcohol related crimes by increasing alcohol prices based on how much alcohol there is.
2. Irn Bru
A Scottish soft drink / juice. Heavily associated with Scotland and they're everywhere. Sometimes it's called Scotland's national drink (Our national drink is whisky but I prefer Irn Bru)
3. Tablet
Tablets are basically kind of like fudge, they're a Scottish sweet and also heavily associated with Scotland because they're well,, a Scottish treat
4. Robert Burns
Scotland's most famed poet, we have a whole day dedicated to him called Burns Day or Burns Supper. One piece of his is "Auld Lang Syne" which is now one of the most popular New Year Songs to play
• Auld Lang Syne -Dougie...
5. Thistle
Self explanatory, national flower. Also funny enough, this thing legit looks like Malta's national flower of the Maltese Centuary
6. Kelpies
Two giant horses but are a famed landmark in Falkirk. I've visited that thing too many times now and I remember always playing in the nearby park of it.
7. Duke of Wellington Statue with a conehead
This is basically a symbol of Glasgow culture. This statue has been through the wringer and on special occasions the cone on his head would be swapped,, Glasgow council has tried to get rid of it but Glaswegians keep putting the cones back on his head and they kind of just gave up
8. William Wallace
Famed Scottish national who was involved in wars against England specifically the First Scottish wars of Independence. He killed many Englishmen and it ended with his head on a pike on London bridge
9. Celtic or Rangers?
A yee old question I've heard since childhood. Glasgow Celtic and Rangers are two football teams formed in Glasgow and have a famed rivalry in Scotland and has also subsequently became a very central part of our culture. This rivalry is also called the "Old Firm"
10. Deep-Fried Mars Bar
...Yeah you didn't misread
11. Deep-fried pizza
Italy do it too, it just seems we get ridiculed for deep-frying everything (rightly so, why the fuck do we deep-fry everything)
12. St Andrews
Patron Saint of Scotland and is also what our flag is called, the St Andrews cross. Like England and unfortunately not anymore Wales and Ireland (Wales Saint is still St David it's just not their flag anymore)
SONGS:
•Ally Bally
An old song that was to advertise Coulter's candy which is in the song but it's also a big part of Scottish culture now too, really outgrown from the ad role lol
•Flower of Scotland
National anthem
