My dad, who was a career sharpshooter in the Army, was a weapons squad leader in 1950 and carried an M-1 carbine from Inchon to Chosin. He liked the piece a lot and said it was accurate out to 300 yards. But my dad was a hell of a shot.

That never hurts 🙂 I'm not too surprised to hear that he could shoot out to 300 yards with the carbine. Most people exaggerate it's "deficiencies".

I found replacing the springs in my Carbine, and either putting new Wolfe springs in my magazines ,or just buying KCI mags has made a world of difference in the reliability of my M1. Plus, bending the back of the follower just slightly helped keep it from binding. Obviously it'll need a break in period after putting new springs in, but it's worth it. Thanks for the video!

Not a problem and thanks for the tips. I'm having problems with reliable feeding from my magazines as well so I may try out some of those ideas that you mentioned.

I got an Iver Johnson m1 carbine, has the heat shield on it too. Nice.

My M1 war babies must shoot harder than some of these I read about. The proof is in dented steel I have, bullets that would tumble violently into a body after a wool coat . This is 50-75 yd. I'm talking about. Many field officers and radio men, truck drivers and cooks made a difference armed with these fine little rifles. I have Garands, an M1A, but these little guys are my favorite to shoot.

I've addressed the myths about the M1 Carbine and it's "weaknesses" in other videos in the past year -- it's nonsensical to believe that the .30 Carbine round couldn't penetrate clothing, even if frozen.
@nissanlowe Жыл бұрын
@@TheRedneckPreppy I just shot mine 2 days ago at the range. Somebody had left a truck tailgate down there and had been shooting it, I stood it up and shot 5 rounds from 50 yds. It penetrated both sides easily and kept going.
@jason60chev3 жыл бұрын
Soldiers tried the press the carbine into a role it wasn't designed for. It isn't a main battle rifle. You want that, pick up a Garand.
@Shadow0fd3ath245 жыл бұрын
Love this. And pretty much everything is spot on...BUT Almost EVERY report of the 30 carbine not stopping was from rifles not being sighted in and or missing in full auto from almost all the material out there
@TheRedneckPreppy5 жыл бұрын
That second part doesn't surprise me at all. I am going to be following up at some point with another video examining some of the claims.
@Shadow0fd3ath245 жыл бұрын
@@TheRedneckPreppy sweet I'd like to see that. Between all the books,interviews, and other media I've consumed along with Ians comments and interviews from Forgotten weapons.... I doubt there were ever penetration issues. Especially when 45s seemed to have no problem even though they put way less energy, have a wider cross section, and are waaaay slower
@TheRedneckPreppy5 жыл бұрын
I'm with you on that -- I've long been suspicious about the penetration claims myself. I'm going to test a variety of scenarios including clothing, vegetation and some light barriers. My plan was to do either one giant video including the tests or two videos in order but the timing didn't work out.

Note the Marine on the thumbnail wearing the P44 camo, This was actually believe it or not tried out in Europe during Normandy however a myth goes that it was too similar to Waffen SS uniforms

I have had ww2 era service men tell me a M1 carbine was a sought out weapon in jungle combat And I have listened to real Korea era marines say they would pop a enemy who appeared dead again just for good measure they also said a m1 carbine was a bit light In my opinion a m1 carbine is one of the best Wish I owned one A M1 carbine and a Ruger 30 carbine blackhawk make a nice pair for a reloader And make no mistake a M1 carbine is deadly out to 100 yards

Why didn't the M-2 keep it's designation when the carbine was made? Having 2 different rifles with the same designation is just stupid. Actually there were 3 completely different rifles with the M-1 designation: The M-1 Garand, the M-1 Carbine, and the M1A. All 3 were used by the military at the same time. Using that type of reasoning I guess the M-16 SHOULD have come out as the M-14 Carbine and the M-4 designation would be the M-14A.
@TheRedneckPreppy4 жыл бұрын
The nomenclature for the naming of model numbers has always been a bit confusing since the US dropped having the year after the M, like M1903 Springfield. My best guess is that the Garand, Carbine and M1A were all considered different classes of rifles so using M1 as the model designation is technically permissible, though obviously confusing. There actually was an M-15, which apparently was a modified M-14, designed to be squad automatic weapon. It didn't really improve on select fire M-14 so they scrubbed it. I haven't done much research on the M-15 so I'm not too sure about whether it overlapped with the M-16 development.

What is the 30 caliber carbine cartridge was a joke in the Korean War when the Chinese had heavy coats on they would shoot them with it and the bullets would almost bounce besides the guy that designed it did it while he was still in prison the warden let him work in a machine shop working on gun to help the war effort. Some of these people that do this stuff don't know what they're talking about
@joshuahowe94174 жыл бұрын
Many people think the problem In Korea was them shooting it beyond its capacity. They didn't bounce off.
@ponraul12214 жыл бұрын
.30 Carbine bouncing off a coat is the biggest pile of bullshit I’ve heard. Here’s a video of it going through Level IIIA rated Kevlar body armor at 200 yards: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4Tak4p9hpx9bZo
@Mgoblue24864 жыл бұрын
So, would you put a heavy coat on and let someone shoot you with one? Ridiculous statement. The soldiers simply thought they were hitting when in reality they weren't at all.
@codycuppes69544 жыл бұрын
Bouncing off a coat... so much bullshit. Why did it not bounce off German coats? Any rifle you still need to aim. Those saying they actually shot a chinese soldier and it bounced off either cant shoot or were just making up lies to tell gullible people.
@SVT40AK473 жыл бұрын
Speaking of talking about someone that doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Just because you watched an old movie with Jimmie Stewart doesn’t make it all a complete history of the Carbine. Williams designed the short stroke gas system and that was it. Go watch another movie.....
