Thats interesting. There are a lot of parralels between these languages and Russian. For example the word Vedas - there is a Russian word from the root Вед (ved) from which words like "to know" (Ведать - Vedat) are made. Practically the same word. And in this video, the word "trishna" is told to be craving as in "thirst" - and in Russian "жажда" (Zhajda) is both craving (as in desire) and thirst (as in for water).

Bhante, firstly, I think about the first question that came up from the lady as a clever question i.e: 'craving & consciousness'! My simple realization is that craving is completely different from consciousness. Consciousness is like clean air or water. Craving can be the pollutant smoke or patch of oil spoiling clarity or purity. The meditational effort is applied to purify our minds from cravings and defilements. Then, finally, consciousness is also to be gradually eliminated as we progress on the path to achieving Nirvana. Consciousness is also similar to the boat that crosses us over the river, we don't carry it with us once we go to the other side. Is this right as reasonable thinking?

"Coming together with disagreeable people is suffering"... Can you expand on this ?
@veroreyes38264 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex! ... In the verses of the Mangala Sutta the Buddha affirms that associating with good company is a great blessing, even the kalyanamitta is the 100% in the noble path. Therefore associating with bad company is the opposite because it leads to awakening unhealthy states of mind.

Greed, Hatred and Delusion... It seems to me that these, so-called, 3 causes of suffering are not on equal footing, that the fundamental cause of suffering is ONE: DELUSION. You can have hatred without greed and greed without hatred, but you cannot have either without delusion. In other words, delusion is a fundamental requisite for both greed and hatred. I wish I had had the opportunity to ask Bikkhu Bodih his view on that.
@nadeekadilshan42265 жыл бұрын
lamegalectora “Ignorance is actually identical in nature with the unwholesome root ‘delusion’ (moha). When the Buddha speaks in a psychological context about mental factors, he generally uses the word ‘delusion’ ; when he speaks about the casual basis of samsāra, he uses the word “ ignorance” (Avijjā). The noble eightfold path by Ven.Bikkhu Bodhi (page 121)

@@nadeekadilshan4226 Thank you but what is your point?
@nadeekadilshan42265 жыл бұрын
Way far from giving my point of view about Dhamma yet, but what I understand so far is that Buddha uses different ways of approaching for different people so the words use in one conversation wouldn’t mean to another exactly as same as it is,,could be slightly differed like Delusion means in here and in “Paticcasamupada - Dependent Arising”, and yes, I think Delusion is the reason for all of them when it considers as ‘Avijja’ in “Paticcasamupada - Dependent Arising”
@JanakaAbeyratne4 жыл бұрын
@@lamegalectora Yes you are right as the Delusion is the fundamental cause for hatred and greed.

I think the simplest way of explaining the third kind of craving (Vibhava tanha) is that it's a craving for not to be, not to have, not to get. eg. if you're poor you just want not to be poor, if you have poor health you want not to be in that state of poor health or when you're in an unpleasant situation and you want not to be in that situation. That's a kind of craving but you still can't come out off that sutations like that then it does cause suffering.
