Hearing Ben tell the story brings back great memories. I first saw them in 1975 at the original Birchmere and never stopped following them ever since. Definitely the best sound in bluegrass. It was sad to lose Duffey so early ...loved to hear him sing "Walk Through This World."

John duffey......nuff said!!!!!! one of the greatest music assemblies ever...their harmony is untouched but i would imagine is what any band/group strives for....beautiful beautiful music that will continue to stay timeless..

I heard the song, Girl in the Night on our local access TV channel. I tried to locate that song for months. I finally found it on a Seldom Scene album. Best song on the album in my opinion. Kind of introduced me to Seldom Scene sound. ...Bill

I saw them at The Birchmere many times during the late 70's and early 80's. You are right. They played every Thursday. I can still remember Duffy greeting the audience by saying "Bless your hearts and all your vital organs."

"Funny as a crutch" means utterly unfunny! I love Eldridge and his playing. What an excellent video. Thanks for uploading this.

I first saw them around D.C. in 1971-72, Red Fox Inn, The Cellar Door, at the live Cellar Door date with the original band. We loved them; they were our local amazing heroes. It was still great, but wasn't as good when they started changing band members.

I can't believe that John duffey passed away As a falcetto he was one of a kind The bluegrass world was hit like a ton of bricks that were transformed into a wall of loss devastation And disbelief grief and disspair
