Glad to see a video a about this small village. I thought maybe you would like to learn some facts about Ida. I have taken a class at Ida Public Schools called Ida’s Backyard History in 2008: -Ida’s middle initial is unknown. It could be an H or an M. The gravestone is way too old tell. Even trying to see it by taking paper and charcoal to it. -There are a few churches because not every Christian religion is not the same denomination to give local residents options. -Ida use to be a mainstream community for deaf/hard of hearing students. The students had a hearing impaired program called Monroe County Program for Children of Hearing Impairments (MCPCHI) found by Mary Cambell. The students would be picked up by her on a bus around the country and they stayed with families in Ida during the weekdays and go see their own families on the weekends until public transportation became available outside of Ida in the late 1980’s. Mary passed away in 2016.The MCPCHI program discontinued in Ida due to not having enough deaf students in 2015. -The reason you can’t enter Carl’s Hide-A-Way restaurant in the front of the building is because there is an old law still today you cannot have a church within a few hundred feet of a bar. (Methodist church is located on Ida East Rd. too close to Lewis Ave. where the restaurant is.) -Yes, you are correct. Ida is famously known for their annual Christmas in Ida parades and events. If you would like more information Ida Branch Library has a room dedicated to Ida’s history and the Ida Backyard History classes have recorded interviews with important people of Ida’s history who may or may not still be alive today that were donated to Ida Branch Library. Jeremy Potter is the teacher who taught the class at Ida Middle School. He may or may not still be teaching it. He use to do a tour of Ida involving his class and sometimes made it a public event for anyone to do with the class. I hope this information helped. Thank you for making this video. :)
