It all depends on how you interpret the arrow and the stickman. If the arrow is passing of time and the stickman represents the same person, sure. But maybe this says a 4 year old stickman approches a 12 year old stickman what does this mean for 10 year old stickman approaching a stickman of unknown age? Jail.... It means jail.
@bjornfeuerbacher551414 күн бұрын
The original question was given in the description below the video in text form. ("The question is if one person is 4 and the other person is 10, then how old is the second person when the first person turns 12?") So the interpretation of the arrows is clear.

I think people who don’t like math but did have math in school get this wrong because they approach mathematical problems in a step-by-step manner. They think: which steps can solve this problem? Instead of: how does this problem work, what relations are at play? And this with a little intuition misdirection leads to many people answering 30 I think

actually it could still be 30, because there isn't a specific question for this task. If the question was just "how old will the currently 10yo be when the 4yo turns 12", then sure, it's only 18. But because the question for this isn't specified, the task is just 4yo->12yo || 10yo->???, you could say 30 by looking at it as "what age will a 10yo be after living x current lifetimes, if a 4yo become 12yo after living x times their current lifetime"

The answer "30 years old" is also possible by applying the laws of Physics, simply let him/her go at a significant percent of the light speed, and then according to time dilation effect, he/she can be 30 years old, Physics makes it work, afterall PHYSICS IS EVERYTHING

And how are we going to get someone to move at that speed? The amount of energy needed to get a person to move at even 10% the speed of light is several orders of magnitude above what is practical to provide. And that is also assuming the person survives and their body doesn’t just get ripped apart

If you just post the image without context, the question is ambiguous and HAS NO DEFINITIVE ANSWER. There are lots of ways to get from 4 to 12, each one could be used to get a different result for the requested value.

There are multiple functions f(x) that satisfy f(4) = 12. 1. f(x) = 3x f(4) = 12 so f(10) = 30 30 years old 2. f(x) = x + 8 f(4) = 12 f(10) = 18 18 years old There are many other functions that satisfy f(4) = 12: 1. f(x) = x^2 - 4 f(4) = 16 - 4 = 12 f(10) = 100 - 4 = 96 96 years old 2. f(x) = 12 f(4) = 12 f(10) = 12 12 years old 3. f(x) = 2x + 4 f(4) = 8 + 4 = 12 f(10) = 20 + 4 = 24 24 years old 4. f(x) = 4x - 4 f(4) = 12 f(10) = 36 And the list goes on... I don't like this question. You can't just claim an answer is right because of "common sense" just because the question is asked in terms of age. The relationship between a f(4) = 12 and f(10) = whatever can be literally anything. You can't just assume that the relation is x + 8 by adding context to a question where there is no context...
