BLACK OAKS EARLY, WHITE OAK MID, RED OAK LATE. The tannin in each oak has a certain level of acidity that acts as a preservative. The lesser the tannin the lower the preservation. The deer eat what is palatable to their taste. Think of it like having a pantry full of what you love and as it dwindles down you start eating what suffices before you head to the grocery store. Oaks are the same way and as season progresses the desire of food changes because of what is being preserved.

Normally where I’m at in hill country the wind takes over the thermals around 12 then the thermals normally aren’t a factor until around the last hour of daylight

I wear cleated trail running shoes for the early bow season here in NC. Super light waterproof, flexible, and quiet. Most of all very comfortable.

I miss my community scrape or really community scrape area, it got clear cut beginning of last season, would be atleast 1-2 bucks hitting it over the 130’s and 4+ year old in a high property in Arkansas, a lot of scouting to find another one to continue this year lol

Primary scrapes always have a mature buck within 500 yards bedded. Primary scrapes are not made by does or small bucks but then visited by them once made

As a Forester with NWTF i wanted to point out that black oaks are in the red oak family.

In late season be prepared for a doe getting pushed out of the thicket. The bucks will wait in the edge and decide if they should reveal themselves and come out. (Don’t shoot the doe)😅

May be just because on wet years they don’t have to travel as far for food so of course you aren’t going to see as many bigger bucks moving around more. IMO
