Nice solution for a problem that you didn't even know existed until he actually showed the solution to it
@nitro60028 ай бұрын
Pretty easy problem to see, if you've ever had a sit stand desk before. If I had that desk already I'd absolutely buy that extension. But I already have an adjustable height desk that I got on sale for half off so not doing that for now. Just because you've never dealt with an issue doesn't mean it's not a problem.
@iamamucha29148 ай бұрын
@@nitro6002I'm failing to see the problem. I'm assuming that the cable is "annoying" when switching between the sit and the stand function. But I don't really see the point of buying a whole different product for the solution. He has a cable management tray in the back I thought. All he has to do is ziptie it at a certain point and allow enough length inside of the storage compartment so that it can be tight or loose depending on what he wants. The extra money spent on this extra piece I'd assume would still have to end up plugged into the device so what's the difference? And if you hate cables this much why doesn't he just simply use wifi? What could he possibly be doing that needs peak internet speeds? And seeing that he wastes so much money on things he doesn't need he could be buying a better wireless internet plan then that would fix that. Sorry it's a lot I put but I'm genuinely lost and curious about why I'm wrong here not trying to hate.
@nitro60028 ай бұрын
@@iamamucha2914 This very much feels like hate but I'll address it in the spirit of what you said. Depending on your situation it can be a lot more than annoying. You cannot get the cable directly into the back as he's plugging it in from the wall, so you'll either need to run a much longer cable or you're snaking it up the side. Also for latency and interference optimization you don't really want your ethernet cable bundled with your power cable. With the desk on wheels and adjusting for height that means at the lowest setting you will have extra cord that can easily get snagged, and at the highest could be too tight. Like anything there are varying degrees of proper, your walls don't "need" baseboards, kitchens don't need inline filters when you could use a brita. But if you are trying to reduce points of failure, optimize for time and give yourself a clean workspace for focus these things can be useful. It's not the end of the world, but it's absolutely a problem. Again no one said you "have" to buy this, but with the idea of varying degrees of proper this is his job, his way of making money. Wouldn't you invest in all the ways you could to make your work environment better and more productive? I personally have and will, it's paid for itself many times over and I expect it will continue to in the future. Regarding your comment on wifi... First of all if he doesn't have the latest gen wifi he could be getting 1/3rd to 1/4th his internet speed. Buying a brand new Wi-Fi router and mesh setup will be far more expensive than this little addition. "What could he possibly be doing"? Well he could have work that has large files he needs to reliably transfer. He could have local NAS to backup his work instead of paying for online storage. He might game ( I don't follow this channel ) and stream. Moreover if you're talking about saving money he could want to get everything he's paying for I certainly do? If I'm paying for gig internet, I want as much of that 1,000Mib as possible. Why would I try to "save money" by robbing myself of something I'm paying for? TL;DR Like I said not understanding doesn't mean it's not real. This is a workspace optimization and if it's not your job, you don't care about messy cables, or you're not interested in optimizing your desk space it may not make sense to you but there's a place for it.
@XXlegovidXx8 ай бұрын
@@iamamucha2914 Wi-Fi just isn’t stable enough it’s not about the peak speeds it’s about the stability that’s the problem. Even the 5GHz band isn’t stable enough, the amount of packet loss you get is insane.
@nitro60028 ай бұрын
@@iamamucha2914 I wrote a pretty detailed reply and it's gone now. Not sure what happened. The cable tray in the back doesn't help for managing an ethernet cable. That comes from the wall below so it's not going to help with the cable under the desk. There are degrees of "proper", a zip tie can be good enough except that: It really shouldn't be bundled with the power cable for interference reasons - small but there. It would still need enough slack for the desk to go up and down, which leaves a length of cord to get caught on something on the way from sit mode to stand mode. Zipties aren't going to hold it well unless you're over tightening it, which is a problem as well. The "difference" keeping the cable away from being caught on something, snagged, extra wear and tear or worse ripped by the sit/stand motion. Wifi is absolutely not a replacement for ethernet. If you're talking about saving money per se, why would anyone pay for internet and then lose out on what they are paying for. Even the very latest routers, with the best case scenario at distance will not crack 850mbps. So if he's got gigabit internet he's losing 15% of what he's paying for. A good mesh wifi 6 setup is going to cost way more than the $80 this add on costs. There is no "better wireless internet plan" to fix that. Unless you're talking about cell service? Which is not - currently - as stable, low ping or fast as hardwired connection. And that would be an addition monthly cost year round vs. $80 one time. On top of all this, this is the guys business, his work and life. If you could, wouldn't you optimize your work space so that it's as clean and hassle free as possible? Like I said, I already have a sit stand desk. So for me, it makes zero sense to drop $800 on a new desk + $80 for an addon to solve this. That doesn't mean it's not a problem to be solved. Rarely has any sentence that starts with "couldn't you just" been the solution to a problem.
