Hi Justine. My friends live in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia and laugh at me when I say it's cold at -1 in London. That is beachwear tempreture as far as they are concerned :-) Good to see you taking photos on your walk to the post box after your last video. Enjoy the start to your week.

Loved this walk and talk. Please continue with these discussions and thoughts. I am amazed at the environment in Canada. I live in Australia and we don’t have that sort of cold landscape, so it is great to see this. Its summer here and averaging 30C, I dont think I could actually live in a cold, snowy type of place too long. Thank you for this excellent video. Cheers Paul.

What about the lenses I returned to Amazon and swapped out? The health and well-being you got from walking to grab your mail just spread to all your viewers. It's a positive externality you created with your content. I look forward to more, and to Norway.
@BadSloucher15 күн бұрын
@@peters219 my first time learning about “positive externality” but I’m glad it had that impact! I’m not sure if Amazon would give returned lenses the same low value treatment but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did for those cheaper sub ~$200 lenses. The time and labour of someone to check and assess its condition to be re-saleable (re-sellable?) can be high, and the money they’ve lost in receiving the return with tracking and other transport costs could cut into the profitability. They would likely add everything up and say it’s not worth it 🤷🏻♀️ these are hypotheticals extrapolated from some documentaries and articles. I would be surprised but delighted if the return process was more friendly to the earth than I assume.

Under a minute in and you're talking about dignified labour and wasteful consumerism (shout out Canada Post workers btw); I left a comment on one of your earlier videos saying most photography channels have lost the plot and THIS is exactly what I meant.
@BadSloucher15 күн бұрын
Which earlier video was this?
@caleblatreille822415 күн бұрын
@@BadSloucher lolol had to go look this up! It was "cozy camera year in review." ofc I learn a lot from gear reviews, lighting setups, fashion BTS, etc., but isn't most art just a form of connection? With strangers, with faraway friends, with the rhythms of other parts of nature, with past and future versions of ourselves. It's rare to find channels that focus on these aspects of photography instead of that feeling of getting new toys, so I feel very lucky to have found yr channel. Keep up the great work!
@BadSloucher15 күн бұрын
@ ah, thank you. I really appreciate that. I read your initial comment differently at first and thought I was saying something contradictory (which I can do sometimes)

Deer like south facing slopes for bedding down. They will curl up under an evergreen tree. Their fur is longer in the winter. I have watched them playing in the cold at 20 below. It seems like the cold does not bother them very much.

This year I’m going to try to buy less online (and if I shop online I want to buy and pick up in store) to be more active and to not support corporations. Slowing down on buying photography items like photobooks, film and new camera gear, too, but I think I did good job with that last year. I’ve always wondered if I’d be able to survive living in a remote place because I’m so used to the city lifestyle, but I find myself alone more and I’m realizing that I am overstimulated, hence why I often stay by the Hudson and neighborhoods are NYC that aren’t very busy. I think a lot of people are feeling overwhelmed by the accumulation of stuff and with updated return policies reducing the time period to accept returns, I think a lot of people are going to go on low buys this year.

@@DavidMiller-rt7ld I had that lens but vignetting is visible while walking when shooting in 4K and APS-C mode turned off. If I turned APS-C mode on, it’d switch to 1080p. I’m very happy with Sigma full frame prime, takes the mental gymnastics out of it
@DavidMiller-rt7ld11 күн бұрын
@BadSloucher try to record at 4k 24fps + clear image zoom 1.2x then the vignetting will disappear. At 24fps you can do it, but at 60fps you can't.

When I returned things to Amazon. I live in Calgary. I used to rewrap it like it was never used. Theeeeeeeen I learned about BINz and Amazon Pallets of returned goods. No? I shove it in a package and return it. Sometimes I have even got extras and "forgot" to include because I know its just ending up in a bin and probably not going to be opened and checked. Like dont get me wrong I order a lot of computer wires and other things and find amazon great for it but personally hate amazon.
@BadSloucher15 күн бұрын

@classic.cameras15 күн бұрын
@BadSloucher It is. So much they can restock and or sell for cheaper or used but they do not. Amazon is so wasteful. Especially the fact you can order a candy bar and they will drive it to you. Like what a waste.
