Note: I haven't tried Grim Wraiths yet (i'm a mobile player), but i think grim wraiths have more potential to do this trick. They just need to swap places with the closest tower before abominor eats it.

If you are on Android you can have all the towers for one month nearly qarter cost (for my curency) of the game alone

Grim wraiths actually have an even easier interaction. If you select the reposition button before he eats it, then let the boss eat your grim wraith tower, it can still be placed somewhere else. So if you keep the grim wraith tower as his closest target always you don't even need to sell anything.
