Hey. Thank you so much for this. I always make my own art and color is something I usually struggle with or forget about, so I'm very thankful for your videos and tutorials.

A lot of you guys post how to draw as a real artist. They are not looking for a damn course on how to draw but how to do their work on procreating to make a game or such with step-by-step instructions. I have subscribed and unsubscribed to people that give good hints but will not give out this detailed information. Is this a corruptive way to hold others back? WHATEVER.
@colorwithkurt11 ай бұрын
Correct. I've been making free tutorials on KZbin for over ten years and selling courses to support those videos just to hold you down.

In simple words, the predominant color is orange and the another is blue.. and it is then detailed in analogous colors around orang color .

Also tell us why you like Clip
@colorwithkurt3 жыл бұрын
Reference layers. That's primarily why I use Clip. I just finished a course on CSP a few months back that goes into all of things you are asking. I know you prefer a book, but it's not something that I see happening in the near future.

Awesome video Kurt and this is what i was looking for! Im going to re-watch it a couple of times so that i can apply it to my drawings. I see you dont really use blending modes on the layers while many other do use it in their workflows but i think without it makes you understand it a bit more in the long run so big thumbs up for creating this video!!!!

Thanks! I do use Hard Light mode for most things these days. I'm glad you liked it. :)

The one thing I always wonder is whether this process is done throughout the entire comic? Are you constantly thinking about the colors and such?
@colorwithkurt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the colorist is always thinking about how to enhance the story with color.
@55MAK552 жыл бұрын
Great vid thank you. Do you have a video on choosing brushes? I also happen to have the Frenden pack (OVER 1000 BRUSHES YALL) and it is so hard to choose the proper brush for the job. I asked Frenden himself and he said to experiment and you'll find it but I'de like a bit more guidance.

Had bought your early 2000 how to color comic book. Will you make a new step by step book using clip showing us how to color untop of pencil drawings... basically the 3 main color techniques seen currently on covers... ink, realistic paint brush style and coloring tight pencil drawings? Saw a Deadpool sketch pencil drawing cover... wow. Gotta write the book straight forward project simple just 3 projects folks can try to follow. Video's hear you talking but difficult to follow

I know this vid is old but I’m still gone post the question… if the overall pic is complimentary, the character has an analogous color pallet, then what about the character color pallet?…. Like say the cowboy was someone with a crazy color pallet like Spider-Man or green lantern?
@colorwithkurt2 жыл бұрын
Hero books are often heavy in local color but you can still build palettes and shift lighting and shadows towards other colors.

At the very beginning of the process (8:30) is that pure gray / really desaturated blue? Wouldn't it be even more cohesive filling first all the FG with the same orange, and then fine-tuning the local colors with the sliders?
@colorwithkurt3 жыл бұрын
No it's not gray. There's some color in it. In any case, there are a lot of ways to do this. :)

This was mostly colored in Clip Studio Paint Pro. I also use Photoshop and Procreate at times depending on the piece.

Very informative, Kurt! I got a question: At 11:30 you mention that the character made use of mostly warm colors. What would you have done if the character used cool colors only? Would you have then done the reverse of making the foreground cool and the background warm but still dark?
@colorwithkurt3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. There are lot of ways to make this stuff work. :)
