The VOCOlinc MistFlow Smart Humidifier works with HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Assistant. In this video we'll discuss all the features and my experience using it with HomeKit. We'll also compare it to the very similar VOCOlinc FlowerBud Diffuser.
**Update - The humidity sensor is exposed and accessible using 3rd party HomeKit apps.

One of my favorite features of this is that you actually get more controls in the home app than other accessories. Typically it’s power, brightness, and color control so I’m happy to see we get more features in the home app. Great video!

Your B-roll gets better every video. LOVE a the slowed down rolling mist!!!! Agree in all points! One small thing - it looks like the humidity sensor is exposed to HomeKit, it’s just hidden away on the top of the room Home Screen. Also verified it’s accessible in the Home+ app so you can use this for automations as well. Not sure how useful that will be as it will most likely be a lot higher humidity considering it’s misting out all that water, but at least it’s there!

Thanks Chris! I had missed that since it doesn't give the humidity sensor it's own tile like it does with other devices (like the vocolinc pure flow for example). Glad to know we can access it in the 3rd party apps tho.

I've had mine for a few weeks and also like it. Something that I've noticed is that the onboard humidity sensor seems to read VERY high when the humidifier is on, compared to another Aqara temperature/humidity sensor across the room. I've disabled the target humidity sensor on the VOCOlinc and setup automation to turn it one when the room humidity goes below 35% (on the Aqara sensor) during the day and this works very well.

Really appreciated this review. I have been using the tiny Meross WiFi humidifier and I was on the lookout for a bigger, and especially Homekit-comptible, version. Received my VOCOlinc Mistflow on Thursday and absolutely love it. I placed it in my master bedroom and replaced my Honeywell which I had plugged into a wemo mini using a home automation connected to my Eve degree to trip the humidity automation. This has streamlined it. I have moved my Honeywell to another room. Also absolutely love the mood light and that it is also exposed to HomeKit, colours are great! Very good product✅

Hey, thanks again for an honest review. I also have the humidifier myself. And my findings are similar. I do use distilled water myself. Maybe not really necessary, but if you live in an area with chalk rich water. Maybe worth considering. Furthermore, I would say, keep it up. 👍🏻

It’s nice to see more products coming to HomeKit platform… wish there were more options, though. One thing about this and most humidifiers - their built-in humidity meters aren’t reliable, because they can only measure humidity of air immediately around the device. It would be much better to use a separate smart hygrometer, which is capable of controlling a humidifier, whether that’s through HomeKit, or dedicated app.

Congratulations: Another great video, Shane. I am definitely thinking of getting one of these for our house. We typically have high humidity in Central Texas, but there are times when the humidity drops and I have issues with my sinuses. This might be the ticket. I really like the way VOCOLinc automatically uses a Target Humidity to turn the unit on and off. Questions: What happens when it runs out of water and the humidity level hasn't been reached? Does the unit automatically shut down until you refill it with water? Does it send an alert for that situation? Rant: I am disappointed with the Home app in a couple of areas that Apple could really improve on. One is, when you are using the slider button, it doesn't show what the setting is until you release the slider. So if you are trying to set it to a specific number, it is a bit of trail and error to get it to that number. Of course you can always use Hey Siri to set it to a specific number, but sometimes, I just want to do it in the app as I may already be there or I don't want to disturb someone else that may also be in the room with me. The same goes for the White light wheel. Why can't Apple show us the color temperature while I am moving the wheel around. I would love to be able to see what the color temperature is in *K, like 4000K or 2700K, and so forth. Sometimes Apple "hides" stuff from us that would really help others out. I see other manufacture apps and they are seeming doing a much better job at the user interface than Apple is doing. I understand that Apple's Home app has to accommodate several manufacturer's devices, but at times it just appears Apple is missing the boat on the UI. Maybe it has to do with how the other manufacturer's are reporting or exposing information and settings to Apple.
@ShaneCreates

Thanks Frederick! Yes, it should shut down and will not run, just like the flowerbud, when the water runs out. And you will get that "low water" alert/status.

Wow, love that B-roll with the blue lights in the beginning! We have two rooms this can go in, so I will be checking Amazon daily now. Does HomeKit get access to a water level sensor?
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! The water level is not exposed to HomeKit. Well, it’s not obvious anyways. There is a number of “custom attributes,” like the light effect mode, that are accessible in the 3rd party HomeKit apps, but I haven’t been able to determine if any of them correlate with the low water alert. That would be great to automate, especially on the flowerbud. But like I said, at least with the MistFlow, it’s pretty easy to see when the water is getting low just by looking at it.

How good is it to use essential oils with it? Because vocolinc did specify to use water soluble essential oils which most of them being sold on the net (Amazon etc) aren't water soluble. Does it damage the device to use the regular essential oils?

Could be possible to automate ON with a specific humidity threshold ?
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Whenever you set the “target humidity” , either in the VOCOlinc app or in HomeKit, the device will start every time the levels drop below the target and cut off when it get over. In addition, you can use it in other HomeKit automations with other sensors like temp/humidity sensors if you have them.

Excellent episode as always! Just a quick question: How easy is it to disassemble and clean the humidifier? Specifically the parts that come in contact with water, as you know if you don't clean the internal system regularly you could create "mold" in some "hidden" areas. Thanks!
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! And good question! There isn't really anything to take apart. Just take the lid off and clean the inside parts that you can reach. Additionally, I will post below what the manual says regarding cleaning & maintenance: 1. Unplug the device and remove the cover. 2. Pour out any remaining water from tank. 3. Clean the device with war (add a few drops of dishwashing detergent), and then wipe it gently with a dry cloth. 4. Do not use acids or enzymes detergents, as this may give off hazardous gas or cause malfunction. Be sure to use a mild detergent. 5. If the humidifier is not used for an extended period, drain the water from the tank.

Thanks for letting me know. Last I heard, no they are not out of business. I know they've struggled keeping products in stock over the past year due to the chipset shortage. My guess is they are just sold out currently and having a hard time replenishing the inventory for certain products.

That is not a safe humidifier. If a humidifier is the ultrasonic kind and does not use a UV lamp to sanitize or is not the evaporative kind, it is a not a safe humidifier to use. It is not a secondary concern. It is one of the most dangerous thing in the house.

Getting this device smart is not necessary. You have to manually drop essential oil anyway. And single press on the humidifier is more convenient than controlling it on the phone.

This thing went back to the drawing board. It’s not sold out anymore. It was pulled cause it’s trash. I got 2 of them on day 1. 1 didn’t work and the second I’m using just for the mood light. It does absolutely nothing for humidity. I have it a 13’ x 11’ room and even with the door closed for 24 hours it does nothing but send a cool looking vapor stream into the air. I sent the broken one back for a refund and Amazon refunded me for both and told me don’t bother sending the other one back. That’ll tell you something. The humidity sensor is not even on point. I guess Vocolinc wouldn’t send you free stuff if you actually told the whole truth.
