Thanks for mentioning us Canuck’s Em! Smoke is on and off for me west of Toronto. Really sad to see these wildfires occurring. The loss of trees, habitat, and wildlife. And to think we are barely into June with so much dry weather. Been thinking of all the farmers trying to grow their crops…and the price everyone is eventually going to have to pay. Thumbs up for LCLY EVERYONE! 👍👍👍👍
@looseballs1966 Жыл бұрын
it will not hurt the crops unless the crops actually burn of course, what it will do when rains come is wash tons of pot ash and nutrient into the soil and stuff will grow like crazy, fire is actually good for the forest because it gets rid of dead deseased and dying and make way for younger healtier growth.

Yuppers, NYC experienced some of the worst air quality today on Earth! The sun might be dimmed but these rocking LCLY videos are one of the bright spots on the planet. Emerald I recently learned that slab is called "Adirondack Siding". I knew there was a reason you ought not chip them boards up. I will send you a cool shed design that utilizes Adirondack Siding and old pallets. The fruit vendor on my corner has to dispose of a wood pallet almost every day. Throwing out food sickens me, and tossing out wood goes against my grain. I love how you have established a "zero" waste goal. Leading by example is a sign of sound management and good leadership skills! If you were in the military I would salute you! PS ~ A friend of mine you remind me of, helps run City Harvest that collects perfectly good food that might otherwise be landfilled, and distributes it to local food pantries to feed the poor, homeless and hungry.

As of today, over 33,000 sq km, or 12,700 sq miles have burned away from East to West of Canada. The fire season ends in October! The forests are suffering as you can well imagine. My heart bleeds for the wildlife, deer, moose , elk, caribou, wolves and lynx can outrun it. But hares, squirrels, voles, porcupines, marmots cannot. And when it will be over, the predators and grazers will have nothing left to eat or hunt. A continental disaster! PS- I’m in Quebec, just a few miles north of Vermont and New Hampshire, the edge of the Appalachians. Love you girls and your family enterprise!

Gypsy moths ripped through here (Ontario) 3 years ago. Although most of the oaks re-foiliated, there hasn't been an acorn drop since. I know how you feel. I was building my house in southern MA back in 82 when our GM infestation was at its worse. I will always remember the distinctive sound of frass falling thru the trees to the ground. Eerie. All the trees in my area recovered, but I think the moths in Em's area have been around a few seasons. It's getting worse all over. Up in Maine the winters have been so mild the tics carry over from one season to another without the cold kill. Moose in some areas so afflicted w/tics it's killing them.

I'm a bit pleased that Australia had a quiet bushfire season last summer. It's a semi common occurrence to get smoke like that across a lot of the east of the country. I had a look at the current Canada fires to compare them with some of the more recent Aussie fire seasons. Canada has about 9.8M acres burned so far this year. The 2019-20 fire season in Aus took out 46M acres. The BIG fire season from when I was only a pup in 1974-75 was 290M acres. Australia is fairly barren and flat compared to Canada and figures say that Canada has about 3 times the tree coverage that Aus does. I certainly hope that there is firefighters out there doing their bit. It's been in the news that 200 Aussie firefighters have headed over to Canada to return the favour that Canada has done for Australia in the past. Between fires in Canada, the gypsy moth and the emerald ash borer the wood industry is getting a bit of a beating over your way :(

The last tour i did in 2018, there were so many more days like this from just regular old pollution from cars and industry (not the yellow dust). Kn-95 masks are your friend when its like this day in and day out. High 2.5micron particulate count can be very detrimental to the health over time. Our day looked the same down here in MD.... Sadly familiar.

Be aware that the smoke is actually minute particles of burnt timber which is carried by the wind. In breathing in that smoke you will include those particles which will lodge in your lungs, best to use face masks when you are outside. We in south eastern Australia went through the same conditions a few years back which was very bad for asthmatics and drive a spike in respiratory complaints.
