A Smoky Pilgrimage to Helen's BBQ in Brownsville, TN

I can't believe it was 4 years ago that I visited Helen Turner as part of my Southern Food Road Tour, and learned the secrets of her wonderful Memphis-Style barbecue. She uses all hardwood (hickory and oak) and smokes her meat on an enclosed parilla-style grate. I am trying to get some things out of my notebook so there will be room for other things!

She is not the only black female pitmaster in the US. There is a lady in Memphis that owns Cozy Corner and another in Nashville. They had all of them featured on a Food Network special.
