*2NE1* are the original badass, girl crush girl group. YG wanted a girl group that was different than others at the time like Girls Generation, cutesy, girly, soft. And 2NE1 was born, *but* YG also did them dirty. Coming off of a hugely successful world tour they disbanded, no warning. YG CEO called them ugly and said he wanted a pretty version of 2NE1 which is when BLACKPINK debuted. BLACKPINK received ALOT of hate when they debuted because fans blamed them for 2NE1 disbanding. No one was to blame but the CEO. 2NE1 was not without problems, Park Bom (vocalist, long blonde hair) was accused of illegal substance abuse because she took antidepressants prescribed to her in the U.S. but illegal in Korea. Last year CL played a set at Coachella, she invited the other 3 members on stage, they reunited for one 2NE1 song and were received with great applause and respect. Rumors have been strongly circulating that we will get a 2NE1 comeback. IT WOULD BE EPIC!!!

Bom had ADHD meds, not antidepressants, she did an interview about that. And she had a doctors note too.. it was legal for her to take them with ther but korean public saw it differently and then ruined her life by starting a witch hunt. but otherwise, you explained it really well!

​there is another reason 2NE1 disband, and it was when Minzy left the group in 2016, and why... as told by Minzy herself on a talk show hosted by Dara, kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXzYlYN3e9JjpNE as she was still a minor while the other three were adults at debute, Minzy did not know how to deal with some of the comments thrown at 2NE1, like they are Ugly by YG himself, all he meant was they were different then all other Girl Groups, not cutesy, bubble gum soft, etc, they were UGLY. But when Bom went on hiatus in 2015, Minzy went into depression, and she could not go to anyone for comfort, She confronted Dara on a talk show , and Dara apologized saying she did not realize Minzy was feeling this way and wished she could have been a better big sister to her. not realizing Minzy was still a child, and needed extra support.

Minzy was also upset and angry that YGE didn’t give her a solo song as promised and that she was left to rot in YGE’s basement for two years after they were put on hiatus. So she did not renew her contract which led to the disbandment of the group. The other members who did resign only got a post disbandment goodbye song and then YGE blocked them from releasing any further music as soloists until they all left the company, because YGE wanted to put all their efforts into Blackpink. The good news is that there is no bad blood between the members and they are all very close and supportive of each others activities. Minzy is currently accompanying Dara on a promotional tour of the Philippines, and Dara has guested on Park Bom’s solo songs. As mentioned above CL invited all three of them to join her on stage to sing I am the Best to close her Coachella set.

2ne1 was THE biggest kpop girlgroup of 2nd gen together with girls generation. Thank you so much for reacting to them. These ladies deserve all the love. 2ne1 were the first kpop girlgroup to hold a world tour, were the ones who popularized the girl crush genre in kpop and they broke countless of records in their time. A lof of idols like Mamamoo look up to 2ne1 as their rolemodel. They were active from 2009-2014, with later on a goodbye single in 2017. YG disbanded them agains their own will (i could rant about that all day, but I will keep it at that for now). They still love each other a lot and are still good friends, so their chemistry as a group is REAL. You might not expect it from this type of group but they are known for their amazing and strong vocals. If you want a vocal song from them, I really recommend "It hurts" and "Lonely" at new evolution concert live, "If I were you" at Yoo Hee-yeol's Sketchbook and i dont care + go away live. For their amazing stage presence (which the others to as well, but sepecially these ones!), I recommend "Fire" from AON world tour and "Crush" from their official youtube channel.

I actually liked this song from their Adidas comercial in 2010ish, and I never even realized any connection to BP at the time. It'd be awesome if you do more 2NE1 reactions. U r right, 2NE1 was iconic, in that it has often been hailed as the pioneer of the "Girl Crush" concept in Kpop, Also, the MV itself is very typical of the early 2010s Kpop style. I would recommend u to check out Super Juniors' "Mr Simple' MV, and u ll know what i m talking about. 2NE1 and Super Juniors were the biggest GG and BG in Kpop back in those days. Hope you enjoy!

2NE1 are to this day the Queens of Kpop. Their debut year they were, Best New Girl Group; Best Song, and Best Girl Group. That was their impact. CL and Minzy were teenagers when they debuted. Dara and Bom were in their 20's. Dara for many years was the richest Kpop Idol. They were disbanded by YG in 2016. Too many issues to explain why here. Look it up.

2NE1 was the first Kpop Group to have a world tour. I think with BigBang they make YG DNA (Color Mv, Rap / Hip Hop etc). They disband after Burning Sun and Drug issue in YG Ent (and maybe some misundertatement ) They continue as soloist and make a surprise apprearance in Coachella 2022. Members make some apparence together. As a BlackJack i hope they can make a special reunion one day.

2ne1- don't care , is probably their best song/mv that came out 14+ years ago has won the most awards next to I am the best. Since It has won many grand awards, it just mean its that good! During this Era, 2ne1 and Girls generation where the biggest girl group. Just like after they were done it was BlackPink and Twice. Girls generation where label the nation girl group then Twice now has that name. 2ne1 was special due to no girl group dared to try something new like a mean aggressive girl crush punk look with a bit of hiphop vibe. During that era that type of concept and genre wasn't sought out much. 2ne1 changed that idea.

2ne1 rocks! I don't know if you know about this series - I'm always flustered when something shows up in my feed and it's YEARS OLD! - but KZbin Originals (remember them?) did a terrific six-part series three years ago called "The Evolution of Kpop." The later episodes are mostly abou the nuts and bolts of producing idols, but the first few are a pretty comprehensive look at the first Kpoppers and it's a blast. From playing for US forces stationed in Korea to all the Koreans coming back from the States soaked in rock, R&B, rap, hip-hop and all the rest, it's pretty clear all the nucleotides of Kpop were there from the beginning, it just took people assembling them, and boy, those early groups were good. I've now got a lot of old groups I knew about but didn't listen to that I want to catch up on. You should give it a look when you have some spare minutes. And yeah, you and the missus are the best...(even if you're not walking around with a poodle...)

YG wants to replicate Park Bom singing style that's why they trained some of their female singer to sing like Bom, nasal sing. If you check Rose old videos, her voice is a bit deeper, which is her natural singing voice. But they want her to sing like Bom, which is unique but could destroy your voice in long run. Because it's not your natural singing voice.

Luckily the vocal trainer that forced that style onto both Bom and Rose is no longer at the company so Babymonster have been allowed to sing in their natural styles. Reliance on overly stylistic singing at the expense of vocal technique has been an issue with YG Efor a long time - probably Jennie and Jisoo are the most affected by it. The problem is on long tours with a lot of shows it puts a lot of strain on vocal chords. You can see the difference in Park Bom's singing post YGE - like in her performances in Queendom - her version of (G)Idle's Hann is really special. Also there is the cute moment of an impromptu sing-along between Bom and members of Mamamoo (who worship the ground that 2NE1 walk on).

One further comment about group size. I'm with the less-is-more camp. I think one of the reasons Blackpink blew up is because they had four members with simple, easy to remember names and very distinct personalities and visuals. And like you said, it's easier to distribute the lines. (G)I-dle has this to a slightly lesser degree but again, Soyeon has that narrow Siamese-cat face and distinctive voice that helps them stand out. It also helps that Soyeon has a master's "ear" for her members and knows who will sing what line the best. Not saying the larger groups don't make great music, but the larger they are, the more the members tend to blur together. I think BM has partially avoided this by all the pre-release footage of them training so you really got a chance to learn each member before they debuted.

that font does make it look like a large lowercase 'A' but it is CL (ChaeLin), and i can see the link between Rosé and Bom - possibly the YG training. when Blackpink debuted there was much criticism and accusation of YG just making a 2NE1 clone which wasn't helped by the fact it was 4 girls with similar talents in each role CL/Jennie (Rap/Vocal), Minzy/Lisa (Rap/Dance), Park Bom/ Rosé (Lead vocal), Dara/Jisoo (Vocal/Visual) - obviously YG has a distinct style which comes across in all their artists to some degree and I never felt the criticism was justified, but I can see why many thought that way. 'I Am The Best' was for 2NE1 what 'Ddu Du Ddu Du' was for BP I think- the big hit which attracted international attention etc - it had just come out when I discovered kpop. personally it is my least favourite title track maybe because i just played it to death for about 5 years. their earliest tracks 'Fire (Street Version)' and 'Clap Your Hands' are my favourites but highly recommend 'I Love You', 'Ugly' 'Missing You' and 'Come Back Home'.

Bom does sound a little like Rose', or rather Rose' sounds a little like Bom. If you ever get around to watching the 2019 season of Queendom, you will see Park Bom again (whether you manage to get any reaction videos out of it or not, I still recommend watching that show just for the all-around awesomeness). Bom appeared as the only soloist on that show, which I think was INCREDIBLY brave. She's awesome! All the other groups were AMAZING so she was up against some seriously difficult competition. AOA (5 of their original 8 members) (G)I-DLE (all 6 members; their appearing on the show and doing SO WELL made them become known as 'The Monster Rookies' that year) Lovelyz (8 members) MAMAMOO (4 members) OH MY GIRL (6 members) Park Bom I'll let you guess who won that season (unless it was spoiled for you already).

2ne1 has not much choreography... if you watch their live performances, they cover the whole stage INTERACTING with the fans. Fans dont sit down, they sing and play with 2ne1. I know bec I watched them live 4x.
