Thank you for uploading! We should have sent Jump which was very catchy and very professionally performed - that could have gone Top 5 easily. The other alternative would have been Future. Would have changed Eurovision - fantastic rock ballad.

I was in the audience. My choice was Ryder and then Vanity Fayre. The standard was good. I enjoyed it. I sadly broke the record Dreamer from Vanity Fayre. Still looking for a replacement.

Ryder were great. The song “don’t hang up on love” would have done so well at Eurovision but maybe a bit too typical. The “war of the roses” was my personal favourite.

Love the Wardrobe malfunction in Future at 33.05... in perspective, War of the Roses should have been the song...

To answer some of the points below: the girls in Jump should have been involved in the song from the start, not portrayed as tarts in an Amsterdam night window, the lead singer in Song 8 should have sung Song 3, with dark jacket to match pants, and Ryder probably just edged out the competition on the night.

David Ian looked better as a member of First Division in '84, than as a member of Jump in '86 ( due to ridiculous fashions.) Good song though.

Jump was the usual rubbish the UK sent in those days. Ryder were far better and I think very underrated.

Well, Terry Wogan always seemed to be drunk, but I guess in 1986 he was close to a forced admission. By the way, were all hairdressers in the UK on strike or what? 😨 Nevertheless I'm actually positively surprised. "Runner in the night" is one of my most disliked Eurovision entries ever and I'm still furious about each single point it received in Bergen. So I pretty much expected a preselection nightmare here. What proved to be true - until the very last song: "War of the roses" would have been one of my favorite UK entries ever, joining "Where are you" from 1998, "I can" from 2011, "Love enough for two" from 1980 and "Lonely symphony" from 1994. 🌹 Love it! ♥ All's well that ends well ...
