Your dad is a trooper. "They won't let me retire." Best line in the whole video. Seriously though is so nice to see that he gets in there up to his elbows in your projects. On another note Gwen blew me away with her observation of the library. You kiddo have married a very wonderfully supportive woman, even though at times it may be hard to see. Just loved her answer about both of your projects in the Convent. Don't you ever take it for granted. Your dad's got 20 yrs on me, but we work the same. Glad you have such a supportive family.

Your father reminds me of my father, who pretty much worked until he was 84 years old when he died. He raised 10 children was a loving father and husband, and instilled in his children the same value of hard work. Your father was incredible enough of a man to teach you those same principles, and I am sure that you are as proud of him as he is of you. Well done to both you and your father.

Same here, my dad passed away at 82, after retiring at 65, he almost went straight back to work... after a rival company came calling, unable to find someone with his specialised knowledge of their equipment, he went from 2 days to full time in the blink of an eye. And he loved it, it was a family owned company that treated him as a member, it made him feel useful and needed, he was almost indispensable to them really, downside for my mum.. there was not much time for work around the house... without tobacco, he would have had another 20 years. Yes, Mick P is strong of character and a worker, it's fantastic to have all these memories recorded for the generation of Pethericks! 🦘

Mick must enjoy that wonderful feeling of still being an amazing resource to both an incredible project and his family as a whole. At 72 I still work albeit 2 days a week but it gives me a sense of purpose . The older generation still has so much to give. Mick is fortunate to be able to physically work still. The secret to staying forever young! 😊

Love seeing the Mick cam today. Thank you, Alex! Yanis definitely deserves to take a nice weekend holiday with friends. He has certainly earned it! Mick, I agree with everyone about how wonderful it is to see you still working along side the "boys." My own father attempted retirement 3 times before it stuck. He just couldn't stand being idle. He had worked hard his entire life and after a few months of sitting around the house watching tv and doing nothing, he would get bored and head out to the workshop to "tinker around" with something or other and the next thing we knew, he was back to running his own business again lol.

Rather than wrapping the end of the wood in plastic, it would be far better to paint it with a bitumenous paint. Wrapping it could trap moisture whereas paint will more effectively seal it.

I grew up doing electrical work with my old man, and because of this have done a lot of demolition, one of the tricks I picked up along the way is that when you have to cut pipes close to a wall like that you can take a grinder with a wafer disc and cut down the length of your sawsall blades to be just long enough that you can get the guard against the pipe and not be ramming the blade into the wall, this makes for a more precise cut. As well splitting a piece of PVC pipe to go over the water pipe to protect from knicking it as you come through and securing it with a couple of zip ties can save you a lot of headaches and worry. On that note the doors look absolutely beautiful.

I am sure many of us will learn from your example and keep going as long as possible. The convent is clearly going to love this library. Everything is fitting so well. Paddy's doors look wonderful, even before they are fitted. The fact that the wood has come from an old oak tree in Mayenne makes them even more special. Mick is an absolute treasure. I think working on the convent is perfect for him. I can't see him retiring completely, so it gives him a project. And his expertise has been priceless. I had a unit rather like the Crafuel. It would be a frig or a warmer. It was priceless when we moved to a different town and the mover couldn't get to the house because a tropical storm had made a mess of the road. We plugged in the cooler and it was our frig for almost a week.
