A Special Royal Enfield Classic 500 Friday Mutter

Two years ago after watching ‪@Saddlebags73‬ and ‪@BulletWanderer‬ I decided to pull the trigger on buying a Royal Enfield Classic 500. Bought online from Hunts Motorcycles in Manchester, they delivered to my door. Shortly after arrival I was out riding it and filming to make a video for my brother. On seeing the video and my latest purchase he suggested that Bertie, should not be kept within the family and that the video should be let loose on the public. TAYM was created.

Congrats on the second anniversary ! Bertie will be on his best behaviour as he knows that you have your eye on a BSA Gold Starfire and could be replaced pronto if he acts up . There is something very satisfying about using older machinery , be it motorbikes , cars , Land Rovers , tractors , steam engines and even black powder firearms . A yearning for the simpler times and a desire to experience what our forebears did . To relive history in a practical way . much better to look back , even if it's through rose tinted specs , than to dread what's coming next in this mad screwed up world full of loonies . Keep on chugging around those country lanes and filling them with a nostalgic single cylinder symphony .

Love it thanks for the video, beautiful bike you have. I’ve not long bought a 2021 classic 500 in the tribute black edition and I have to say that out of all the bikes I’ve owned since I was in my teens this bike is one of the most enjoyable and coolest bikes to ride. I’ve had everything from dirt and trail bikes to road bikes and touring bikes, one that I road across from East to west in Australia, this old style Royal Enfield just puts motorcycling back to its enjoyable basics, an absolute pleasure to cruise on. Nothing fancy just old school and fun.

Wow two years and I'm just over my first year as well. I'll ride through the winter on the dry days but be glad your bike isn't chrome, they are tricky to keep looking good! I've just put that sane rear rack on mine and it was advertised as being for the 500 and 350 so maybe we have just been lucky.

Good morning taym Bertie is a keeper definitely the time and temperature clocks look good. My advice on going up a tooth on the front sprocket will lower the revs a lot but you have different power low down and you need to change gears this is from experience on my RE the old scram you’ll understand when you fit it. I think you should like the 19T sprocket. I Went from the std 16 to 18 on the first oil change on my 2020 350. That was so much better I went 19T and its a gentle cruisy mile muncher now.

Nice little Fri mutter 🙂. I think it's obvious you ❤️ Bertie that much that you just couldn't share him with anyone, which is the real reason you put the pannier rack's on!!!!😅. Great that you have 5000 subscriber's 👏, but you could have had an extra 105k if you'd only done an 11min video of deleting rear pegs 😂, also to get those extra viewer's you need to stop riding your bikes so much and just use old footage!!!😂. Once all these new bike models come out your going to be facing a right conundrum! A lovely maroon 350bullet with very comfortable seat, Himalayan 450, meteor 350 aurora in splendiferous bathroom green, meteor 350 fireball in new colour black. That's without mentioning both 400 triumphs, future RE scram 450, classic 650 both which have been spotted on test!! Think with all this happening Haywards are going to get you a mug with your name on,as you'll be there alot!! At least the cone will be happy 😁😊😅. Have a nice weekend ☺️

Modern bike are great but find them somewhat sterile. Imperfection can be very enthralling and very enjoyable, a character of a bike to build on…

You should notice a difference going up a tooth on the G/Box output sprocket, it will give you lower revs at cruising speeds & a little more get up & go ! Just watch out for the o-ring that seals the 2 cases when you put it back together, I would recommend a new one along with the paper gasket. When I've done this job the o-ring condition seems to vary from good to having gone hard, so its always a good idea to replace it.

I had a Honda XBR 500 cc Single Years ago before the Retro Craze Started Great Bike Great Engine I was not keen on the Comstar Wheels The GB500 had Spoked wheels , They were a bit of a Cult Bike in Japan for customising

I changed the front sprocket on a mates 500 (up one tooth) and I feel it helps it in the lower gears but spoils the flexibility of top gear. He quite likes it but then he has a tendency to ride the nuts off It! . I will leave mine standard , if you know someone that has done it try before you strip the bike. Possibly a couple of teeth off the back sprocket might be a better option.

Well done TAYM and well earned ,I think your dead right about the mountain goat analogy for Bertie very apt . I am quite surprised that Royal Enfield has not brought back the Bullet 500 or maybe even made it an even bigger single to compete with the BSA .I think the chrome one would be a bit of a worry r.e. scratching and such in my mind as with the Triumphs . So does it feel under geared then because it doesn't strike me as a revvy engine ? .👌👍

I sent a few people your way TAYM 🦒.I started watching 👀 you not long after that video cause I remember you talking about your made for brother video.Videos were you riding to music.You still had the Z900 & a W800 & Tiger 🐅 as well & z900 wasn't around for long.You went from zipping along to music 🎶 to talking & trying to concentrate at same time which is quite difficult & were big gaps between words to a polished vlogger now. I have been playing at this KZbin malarkey for 5 odd years, having taking it seriously for about 3 years, it’s addictive 😊. It’s so nice to hear you talking about Bertie so fondly. As for a winter bike, look at the Chinese brands, like the Benelli TRK’s, Moto Morini X-Cape’s, CF-Moto’s. Barely used prices are ridiculous, so you can get a really good value, reliable bike without taking the hit on depreciation.

@@TAYMtry a different dealer. When I mentioned TRK, I meant the 500. I have just been looking on eBay, there are some real bargains. Ok, so they might be a little underpowered, but ideal winter bike.

Congrats on 5k Taym. Undoubtedly more to come. Although you're going to really test your memory with ever more contributors. And thank you for allowing your subs to be contributors it really adds to the whole feeling of Bike community. Your description of your love for Bertie was exactly how I felt about my XT600. I came from a V-Max where I could overtake ten cars in one go to having to very carefully plan my overtakes and it was a real shock but I grew to love it's slow and steady nature. I don't know when they'll be available but I think the new Himalayan would be an ideal winter hack for you and is probably the closest thing to the XT that's currently available. There may be one in my future. As for Bertie festooned with watches is he now a Fillingham special?😂

I think you were on 300 subscribers when I first joined your video journey, your brothers past were some of my favourite videos at the start. Then of course your Monday and Friday mutterings are never missed. As others have said it is your down to earth approach and enthusiasm for motorcycling that cannot be faked. yes , i don't like black ,,, but when your a peasant like me buying used , - most are in black and i say to myself - thats ok i will change the colour , - but have not got the heart to rub off something perfectly good ;;;;;; also watching s 73 helped me say to myself why go fast ?? i now am more happy looking at the scenery rather than trying to prove a point that i cannot achieve ;;;

I would have thought on the type of roads you ride, standard gearing would be fine. Most of the time i ride similar roads and just think factory gearing is good. Regarding the rear footrests i always thought it a bit strange that RE fitted them to the euro 3 models when they did not supply a pillion saddle.

@TAYM Ah the A14, spent many hours as a container driver backwards and forwards to Felixstowe in my working life. Yes if I were. using that road regularly I would up my gearing on the bullet aswell.

Wow 5K subbers in 2yrs? Blimey Whodathunk? As for a sprocket, I'd go for a rear change instead of a front, more scope and way easier than doing the front one. I dropped 2 teeth on my V-Strom for the same reasons and it actually made a real difference to the revs. #whereswendy?

hi pal ,, my profile pic is my 2013 but a 2014 registered rear drum Enfield classic 500 Twin spark Indian import one of the first EFI systems for EU export with an import customs marker on the log book.. with the front sprocket upgrade straight from the factory ...its a shame the distance is a problem as im in Manchester and you are way down south as i would love to swap bikes for an hour to see the difference if any between them ..

@@TAYM i have heard of them ,, but never visited,, i bought mine from millennium motorcycles ...lets just say i knew more about the bike than they did ...she was stood in window as a display in a cafe for 8yrs i bought it with 463 miles on the clock 2yrs ago i now have 10,000mls on it ..the only headache is keeping the nuts and bolts wheels and engine casings corrosion free ...i ride in all weathers and all seasons like yourself ...have you got any tips.. done a few mods this year i will do a little vid and send you a link i would love your thoughts..

@@tony306l I think I am still learning about mine 😁 and any tips you probably know 😁 change oil and filters regularly, check nuts and bolts, etc and clean often in winter 😁 Bertie never really seems to need anything else 😁

i use Aristowax Non-Silicone Wood Silk Furniture Polish 225ml £1.25 from sainsburys i spray it everywhere really especial for anything that is painted after i wash and cleaned ... it works i just spray it on all over in winter and leave it to dry ..its a brilliant and good water repellent and i find it better and cheaper than spending stupid money on products that is advertised for the same result for winter care..some may have a giggle but i giggle when i spent £1.25 and they spent £10-15 fort he same results..thats my best tip for winter care anyways,, anything maintenance give me a shout pal .. recently replaced front and rear sprocket and chain and done my timing ,, and other stuff.. head stock bearings soon and possible front fork service .. seals and fork oil ..will definitely figure this youtube stuff out 1 day

@@tony306l yes, I had a Vstrom I only cleaned a few times in the 45000 miles, in all weathers, washing it using ordinary car shampoo and polishing it with Mr Sheen or Sparkle 😂😂 look like brand new still after 3 years 😂😂

Definitely done the right thing waiting & researching BSA. Now it's been out for awhile & companies like TEC & Hitchcock's developing parts for it which is a endorsement from them.I think 🤔 a center stand is coming along with other bits.
