I like Koinange's appreciation of Nigerian people. I don't believe anyone out there can give a PR for Nigerian and its people better than him. He sure likes Nigeria and Nigerians. That said, the most important part of Dangote's story was left out. While his humility seems to surpass most of rich people's, the story behind how Nigerians in cement, salt, sugar business before him were handicapped for his greatness should also be told. And it's not surprising for a friend of his like Koinange to ignore that part of history, even if knows about it; which I'm unsure he's aware of it. The whole story about his uncle letting him borrow 1Million Naira in 1976 can't squash, undermine or completely perish the fact that, as at very late 80's and early 90's, Dangote was still buying cement bags from southern Nigerian in trucks and hauling them to the North for sale. So, something is not adding up given that he was still hustling in late 80's and early 90's if he actually got a million Naira leverage since 1976. Is that how he wants his story be told? of course, may be for people who don't know or haven't tried to find the history. Anyone can just ask or research how Mr. Fagbemi, one of the early sole distributors of sugar, in Nigeria was crippled by Babangida and Abacha so Dangote could monopolize the entire sugar sales channel. You can also research how the Coca-Cola company's ship load of sugar was held on the sea by Lagos point of entry during Babangida's administration because Dangote was supposed to be sole distributor of sugar. It was later decided that all the profit on that shipment should be awarded to Dangote. That was the only solution to resolving that situation with Coca-Cola and since then, Dangote has not only been the sole distributors, importer but also supplier of sugar even of Coca-Cola's. Some Nigerians recently asked the government while refineries cannot just be built to alleviate the issue of petrol scarcity and elimination of petrol importation, the answer they got is that "the issue will be resolved when Dangote finishes building his refinery". So, power brokers in Nigeria have not just begun handicapping others in order for Dangote to continue making money. It's a simple reasoning, all refineries have been broken for year now but Dangote's will start working soon. Make no mistakes, others have tried building refineries before him but again were handicapped as usual. Goodluck Jonathan wanted a huge equity from an investor who proposed a refinery during his administration but the proposal was tossed because the investor was not willing to part with the kind of equity at stake. There are problems in the land of Nigeria, more of another episode of black in slavery in the hands of fellow black people. As much as people like hearing that Dangote is the richest Black man, a lot of dirty water has passed under the bridge on which he journeyed to business greatness and also to the destination of the title he holds today. I hope the rich and politicians in Nigeria would realize that they can still get stuff done for the people and make their life better alongside their everyday stealing, avariciousness, $70M per month Senators' salary. Fix the roads, install new power grids, build infrastructure, create support programs for handicaps, build better schools, build up-to-date hospitals while you steal if you really have to continue stealing. There is enough to steal from and also improve the masses' well-being with. Peace out, Omo Ola 'n Rele!!!!

pobat73 pobat oga Dangote is still hustling today! I'm sure it still doesn't add up to you! Smh
@moham.2796 жыл бұрын
pobat73 pobat, just for argument sake and assuming what you wrote here is true, can you tell me who has invested more in Nigeria than Dangote? Facts- He has the second largest sugar refinery in the WORLD in Nigeria, he’s building the Biggest Refinery in the WORLD in Nigeria, The biggest cement factory in Africa is in Nigeria, the biggest tomatoes factory in Africa also .The list goes endless. His investments in other businesses brings in foreign exchange for Nigeria and when the refinery is completed next year, Nigeria would never import PMS, export other petroleum products for much needed FX for Nigeria. What has Coca Cola brought to Nigeria? I guess obesity and you are here talking rubbish. Everyone knows that every economy has some sort of monopoly and he used it for the betterment of Nigeria. The backward integration of cement has made Nigeria a net exporter of cement thereby earning fx, same thing with Sugar. Now his efforts is geared to Rice productions. Most of his competitors were never serious and he took advantage of this by doing all these great things I mentioned above. It might also interest you he own no house outside of Nigeria...Dangote must be encouraged to do more. He employs over 50k Nigerians and when the refinery is completed an estimated of over 150k direct/indirect jobs would be created and you are here talking rubbish and making caricature of yourself...please park well jare...
@pobat73pobat906 жыл бұрын
You sound exactly like my younger brother. He jumps on me whenever I mention the importance of telling the whole story. I have no idea what you do but I bet if all the opportunities in your line of business are only reserved just for the children of Nigerian Oligarchs leaving you with zero chance , today you wouldn't have a job. These privileged Children of Oligarchs can turn around and invest more than Dangote in nigeria, employ more people than Dangote, own zero residential real estate outside nigeria (let you tell it), the fact remains that someone like you and others in the same line of business deserve a "level plain field" or at least a piece of the pie. In that situation, I; like a few others, would still want your story to be told and would never call others like you "unserious".
@moham.2796 жыл бұрын
pobat73 pobat, you are still talking about level plain field as if you don’t know business. Some businesses are meant to fail no matter what. The reason why WALMART is a success story is because of its ability to recognize that high volume sales at a reduced cost will always outperform any competitor. This is also Dangote’s model. When he enters any market, the First thing he does is to lower his price thereby gaining market share.. He’ll beat any competitor hence his dominance in anything he does....
@ane13156 жыл бұрын
pobat73 pobat Nigeria's government have ban the importation of rice so that Nigeria can attain sustainability in rice production. Tell me who and who has been stoped from building their rice miling plant? An indian company Warcot rice had built the largest rice miling plant of africa in my state (Kebbi) just 2years after ban of rice Importation, LABANA have open theirs also and many other. Dangote is opening one their to rival WACOT RICE plus a suger plant and in other state like Jigawa, totally he will construct 5 rice million plants what are other rich Nigerians doing? who is stoping them from building their rice plant? they are waiting untill next decade when dangote is fully in charge then they will start shouting monopoly monoply. He is still building petro chemical refinery , and fertilizer plant ask other Nigerians to start , or bring new investors and see if anybody stops them. rubbish
