A Stroll Through Margam Abbey Ruins

Margam Abbey was a Cistercian Monastery founded in 1147 by Robert, Earl of Gloucester and was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. By the time of the Dissolution by Henry VIII in 1536 there were only 12 monks living there.
The land was sold to a local gentry family who constructed the nearby Margam Castle.
The ruins lie within Margam Country Park just outside Port Talbot and are a beautiful peaceful place to visit.

It was weird, but the camera didn't do it justice. There was more of the structure left than I expected and another ruin that we didn't get to way up on the hill.

I love those ruins so I really enjoyed seeing them again, particularly the lovely vaulting and the amazing chapter house.

It was the first time I visited, I will go back. Sadly the orangery was disappointing, the gardens in front needed TLC and the fountains were empty with plastic liner showing.

I thought there was a specific name for an acoustical structure, but I can't remember or find any such term online in my short search. I was thinking amphitheater, but that doesn't really fit what I'm thinking.
