WD40 has an incredible following of haters on the internet but it is an excellent cutting fluid for aluminum, cleans many things very well as you show and is a very manly cologne. Few people know that WD stands for water-dispersing and it does work well in wet environments such as on steam plants. To make it more economical, I buy it in bulk and use it in a refillable compressed-air atomizer. No, I don't work for them... Exciting to have a new series!

Manly cologne. Love it!! Oh, and it's displacing, not dispersing. Cheers, mate

I'm pretty sure that the "small flywheel" is a pulley that the maker installed in anticipation of using it to power some piece of working kit. it is a lovely job by the original builder.

You are correct, and I personally like the colour difference. The engine is a ting of beauty just as it is in my opinion.

Keith, I'd add to the list of necessary work: the paint on the small wheel has to match the rest of the engine, and the paint on the crankshaft counterweights should probably be stripped. The boiler and condenser might(?) appear better matched to the engine if most parts were nickel plated, and some of the boiler band screws look a bit unsightly. Another idea for the boiler and condenser would be to eliminate the lagging and paint them in the same or a complementary color to the engine, you can even retain boiler banding (I did with an unlagged and unpainted boiler and it looks great).

Please watch part #2 of the series when it comes out ........

Beautiful engine. The boiler and condenser seem undersized for the engine, am I correct? The pin on the main flywheel looks interesting and I am looking forward to learning about how it works. Thanks for the efforts as the videos are always interesting.

They are massively oversized, not undersized. These engines don't use much steam.

It would look better if the boiler and condenser were just polished metal.
