Dolphins in the NMMP program have been known to lie to their trainers (e.g. reporting "no person in the water" after they obviously detected the test person in the water).
@jaredjones65704 ай бұрын
What was their motivation for lying in those circumstances?
@wernerviehhauser944 ай бұрын
@@jaredjones6570 In that documentary I watched, one of the trainers said that, since it's more of a game to the dolphins than work, they just didn't want to play at that time. And a while later, they did their task flawlessly. It would seem that it takes a certain level of intelligence and conciousness to do this, and dolphins are one of the species above that level. Other animals are known to use lies to get some immediate gain, like boars leading the lead animal of a group to a lesser food source to gain time to consume a better food source oneself, but the dolphin's "I can't be bothered" attitude is pretty different.

dolphins have a prehensile male reproductive organ, meaning it can swivel, grab and grope, much like a human hand. this helps males navigate the complex, labyrinth-like reproductive tracts of female dolphins

Dolphins are surprisingly close to humans in ways some people may prefer to not know! This includes both cool things like being somewhat intelligent in puzzle-solving, and really bad stuff that i can't even start to describe here!

dolphins are not fish they are sea monsters... if your definition of monster is mammal.
@hamishfox4 ай бұрын
I would argue that they are both fish AND sea monsters since they evolved from boney fish and you can't evolve out of a clade. For this same reason you are also a monkey. And a boney fish.
@MomentofInertiaandcode-n5g4 ай бұрын
@@hamishfox exactly mammals are boney monstrous fish, that descided to change and become... different, dolphins are scarier monsters, as once they changed they came back to hunt the non monstrous fish.

But just what is a fish? Is everything a fish?
@hamishfox4 ай бұрын
@@jaredjones6570 no, boney fish are boney fish. Cartilaginous fish are cartilaginous fish. There is a big difference. Some things aren't either of those.

Dolphins have echolocation abilities. They use short clicks that bounce off objects to hear if there are objects nearby.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins remain the only team of the four major American sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) to go undefeated through an entire season. They accomplished this by flooding the stadiums to better simulate the environment they are accustomed to.

The hemispheres of the dolphin brain are split up to the point where they switch taking sleeping turns, if I remember correctly.
