A little late to the party, but this is just like the theory puzzle that I had sent you. It is great that more people are being made aware of this quite interesting property. I expect to see more puzzles using this fact crop up in the near future!

There was one thing that bothered me for about half the video until I finally got it. And it's probably the easiest thing about the proof: The reason the pattern in box 1 (as seen at 5:00) is forced. No need to tell me, I know I'm stupid

I know you said you figured it out, but if you had the question maybe others do too, so I'll put a little explanation here in case anyone else is confused. The coloring I chose for box 1 is the "seed" for the checkerboard. We are simply saying that whichever digits happen to end up in those colors are those colors. I later fill 1-6 in the box without loss of generality, because it doesn't matter what numbers we use in each of those cells. All that matters is they are 6 different digits, and the three digits that end up in orange are called orange, and the three digits that end up in blue are called blue. By filling 1-6 in the way I did, it ends up that orange are the odd digits and blue are the even digits, but that was an arbitrary choice by me to make things a bit cleaner. I could have chosen to split 1-6 in half in any way. 123 vs 456, 125 vs 346, etc. The positioning of the colors in box 1 is important though in order to have it create the checkerboard pattern.

@@mollaconan The proof did not lose generality by using digits. There's no difference between letters and digits in a Sudoku with only an anti-knight constraint.

To what extent can this checkerboard pattern method be used in 9x9 sudokus?

Not at all, it's unique to 6x6
