Unfortunately I agree I wasn’t a fan of the new movies they lacked a lot of the story narrative and the shots lacked a lot of story telling even the ones where they “replicated” almost the same where done poorly because they missed a lot of the subtle elements that made the original shots so powerful.

裏設定であの地下空間の地面はエヴァが戦っても踏み抜けないようにエヴァの足と反発する素材がしいてあるらしい。その上に土や草木が置かれているので、2号機や量産機が戦うと土や草木はめくれても下の地盤は踏み抜かれないため、ずるずる滑るように立ち回ってる。それが作画で表現されるのが素晴らしい

The other one is the so called Rebuilt time line which consists of four movies. They are not sequels. It's the EVA story retelled with a different plot and also with some new characters.

This is probably my favorite scene of Eva, or any anime of all time. Asuka's character is really relatable and the way she was able to get up and fight even after hitting such a low point was really inspiring. And that's ignoring the tiny detail that she was brutally killed moments after this lol

If it was supposed to be manic there wouldn't be uplifting music, and she wouldn't be talking about realizing the true meaning of the AT field. This whole scene is about Asuka overcoming her past trauma and finding her resolve again. This and her fighting the mass produced EVAs are my favorite scenes in the entire series. Even though she loses in the end, she went all out and was still able to put up an amazing fight despite the odds.

She did so well in that fight and she would’ve won if she knew they weren’t like normal EVA’s. All of the hits she scored were killing blows if they would’ve landed on a UNIT SERIES EVA.

@@PutitinDaramen I think it's the opposite of a trauma response. Asuka's whole character is informed by her fear of rejection (just like Shinji, but his is expressed in withdrawal). She measures herself by her competency and agency because she thinks that's what makes her of value, which is why she takes it so hard when Shinji's synch rate beats hers, when Rei succeeds despite her passivity, and even when she kisses Shinji (he pulls away from her first because he can't breathe, and she takes that as rejection, and pretends she hated it). That whole fear is based on the loss of her mother's attention and affection, and at this point in the film she realises that she's been wrong the whole time, and her mother was always there in Unit 02. I read it as uplifting - she not only is already the most capable pilot, she's suddenly been given a strength she's always thought she was lacking.

旧劇こそ至高なのは当然なんだけど 特筆すべきなのは黄瀬さんの絵柄が貞本義行のキャラデザで１番ハマってる点。 ガイナックスもプロダクションIGも当時脂が乗ってるアニメーターが多数参加してるのも素晴らしい。 この面子がほぼそのまま参加したフリクリはとてつもない映像作品になる。

作画監督の本田雄さんはTV本編ではキャラシーン作画を多く担当されてましたが、本作では特にご本人の希望でエヴァ同士の格闘シーンを担当されました。他のシーンに比べると弐号機の体のフォルムが格闘家のような筋肉質で、肩のプログナイフカバーも小さめに描かれているのにお気づきでしょうが、同氏がまるでプロレスのような肉弾戦をを描き易いように設定し直したという経緯があります。

Nothing I love more than *hearing* Unit-02/Kyoko's voice as she hefts that destroyer overhead. Or when she swipes her AT-field at the VTOLs, or even just at 2:25 when she's just breathing. AWAKE. Imagine piloting an Eva that is fully awake, conscious, and aware; essentially "berserk". And yet, you're someone she loves, and she's someone you love, making the synchronization so perfect, both of you are simultaneously, harmoniously, in control. Beautiful. Everything I ever wanted to see in the Evangelion saga.
