My wife suggests that the "skull" was one crewman who didn’t get the antidote... 😮😢😂

I vaguely remember my last ship having an "Antidote locker" in the Corpsman's Office.

I see i wasn't the only one to think the "antidote" might be tongue-in-cheek for something 90 proof.

Great tribute to the Blenny. Your channel overall pays tribute to the great men of the Submarine Service during WW2. We at the LA/Pasadena base of the USSVI just lost one of our faithful members who served on a WW2 boat. Harold Staggs made nine war patrols on his boat. Rest your oars sailor, we have the watch.

Funny, I did go to Ocean City once, decades ago. I was just out of boot and in my "A" School in Virginia. A friend (and eventually wife, and eventually ex wife) and a mutual acquaintance (funny story) drove up there for a weekend. I don't remember anything except how salty the water was compared to the Pacific, and playing mini golf. Alcohol wasn't even involved!

For forgetting the contents of the locker and ruining Paul's Chistmas surprised Evan was later beaten severely. Still a nice tribute video, a good reminder that every vessel needs friends, and shouldn't forget the ones that are gone.

A tale of two boats, Cod and Blenny. Another tale of two boats is the Squalus (Sailfish) and Sculpin, SS192 & SS191. A TALE OF TWO SUBS by Jonathan J. McCullough tells the story of these two sisters in WWII. As for the Blenny being turned into a reef. It's a much better afterlife than being unceremoniously sliced and diced, as the nuke boats are/have been undergoing.

Agree fully, better to be reefed than scrapped!

Paul, you've expanded our knowledge of submarines, not only am I one that looks forward to your posts, but throughout the last few segments you have shown us other sides of the fleet. Truly, a collection of not just the COD, but all vessels of W.W.II, the past (George Washington), and we await the future of the force.

I noticed that in the clip of the actual sinking, there is some music playing. If I'm not mistaken, it's from the soundtrack of the movie "The Neverending Story".

When the subs were on aviator rescue duty, where did they put the men they rescued? Where did Cod put the Dutch men?

Could the "Antidote Locker" be something of a cheeky labeling for the "Depth Charge Medicine" storage? The only other things I can think of would be for the storage of CO2 absorbent or anti-radiation pills (she WAS in the Cold War and could be exposed to radiation while surfaced).

I would hazard a guess that the antidote is atropine and 2pam chloride, nerve agent antidote. We seemed to be worried about that in the 80s
@danielcoburn863528 күн бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. During the eighties, Chem warfare was a thing and atropine was the antidote for nerve agents.
@milwaukeeroadjim925328 күн бұрын
I remember being trained on injecting atropine which is the antidote for nerve agent.
