I've waited 50 years for someone to offer a proper airplane kit with a unibody construction. I don't understand how KZbin knew to send me your video, Peter, but I'm glad they did! This is perfect for us casual builders.

There is a GWH A10C out now. Looks very nice indeed. The Academy kit does look like it offers best bang for buck. I have the old A10 from HB but the kit stash is a demanding mistress.

Yes GWH looks good but there are some accuracy issues with the weapons…

The a10 is designed to be able to belly land without tearing up the airframe. The tires hangout through the wing when retracted and are aerodynamic. This is to add survivability. It's the only pane that can lose 30% of both wings, have zero electrical power and zero hydraulic pressure and still fly and land. It literally has a block and tackle system inside the wing to allow you to fly mechanically. The last airplane to use that system was the mustang. The cannon was made before the plane was designed. A good friend of mine has family members who designed and built the A-10. His grandfather was the lead designer and we both went to the plant weekly to watch them being built. Both of us have photos with us as kids sitting on the wing of the last airframe built. The odd thing is, that aircraft was called in to support me in Afghanistan and him in Africa. 4 years apart. E is expeditionary

Looking promising for an earlier A model from Academy in the future looking at parts C26 and G14 . I have great memories of the Hog in the U.K. in the 80’s . Great review Peter 👍🏻

Hi Peter, the gear protrudes slightly because if the hydraulics fail or are shot out the warthog can still land without doing too much damage. It's also designed to fly on one engine if need be

Another great review, Peter. The A-10c looks like a great kit. I wonder if Tamiya would retool their own A-10? If they did, it would fit like a glove. Enjoy your evening and week ahead.

A good show and tell, I have the kit on preorder. I’ve read that the biggest issue with the Academy kit is that the engine fans don’t sit deep enough within the ductings. Compare that with the engines on the other A-10 kits and it is easy to see this. I have the Italeri A-10c kit and needed an aftermarket set because it has the earlier version cockpit but would love to see it compared to the Academy product. Cheers 🥂
@zachhan5038 Жыл бұрын
Issue of shallowly placed fans is easy to correct if you do not mind to spend 50% of kit retail price on some correction sets. But this kit has much bigger issues with its engine nacelles and engine pylons that no correction set will be able to solve, as that would cost much more then kit itself.

Please - don't mention seams! 😄But as always, a nice airplane and I think two nice kits. Can't really say which kit I would like to build. I came close to buying the 1/72 Matchbox kit decades ago. But still my main focus was and is on anything WW2 related. However I would most probably butcher this kit (one or the other) and apply the three colour wrap around camouflage scheme from the 1980s. I just love camouflage.

Hi Peter, I know a little about plastic moulding processes and am curious about the twin engine shroud moulding part, is there any over generalisation of the shape to accommodate the draw moulding or does it faithfully reflect the actual engine shroud shape? Hope that question makes sense.
@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes it seems academy have used quite an advanced mould design to produce it in one piece like that. It will be a more advanced version of the principle seen here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3a9XoZ-gKqLpbs

Nobody noticed a huge flaw of that new A-10C kit, close to impossible to correct?! Really? All seems to be hugely impressed with all those surface details, rivets, slide mold technology etc... but nobody see elephant in the room???
@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Жыл бұрын
The engines? Please remember when I do a review it is a live unboxing, no sneak peaks first, so no time for a very detailed study before the camera rolls...
@zachhan5038 Жыл бұрын
Angle of pylons carrying engine nacelles is drastically wrong, waaay too steep. It's about 45° related to horizontal instead of cca. 20-25° max. As result attachment point of pylons onto engine nacelles is way too high and shape of pylon's upper surface is dead wrong. And engine nacelles are placed too close, by about 3mm. All on all, they f.... it up royally, those huge issues would require a mayor surgery to get corrected. Too complex to be worth my time and effort. Btw., A-10 is my favorite a/c, have at least fifteen A-10 kits from 1/72 to 1/32 scale. Have purchased three of those new Academy A-10C kits, was happy like a little kid, but upon inspection have sold them all three Academy A-10C kits, disgusted by major issues of that kit. It's insane what Academy have done, they paid so much attention to all those great looking details and then utterly screw up basic components. G.W.H. A-10C is to be released this year, will be very expensive, more then 100 € probably. Let's hope it will be on par with their 1/48 kit of a Su-27 family, those are almost perfect in every aspect.
