re: Motel vs Hotel. That was a hotel. A motel is a subtype of hotel catering specifically to motorists (motor hotel = motel) by allowing you to park your motor vehicle as close to your room door as possible. A motel will always have room doors that exit to the exterior and as close to a parking space as possible. Hotels, on the other hand, usually have doors that exit into an interior hallway. Just some FYI from someone slightly obsessed with the road-trip era of America ;)

To be fair, it's the shit clones and cash-ins that ruined that mechanic. If games (that weren't creatively bankrupt) couldn't copy mechanics, there would be no such thing as genres. At least this wasn't an exact replica of the PT layout like most of those hack-frauds...

Yeah, I really couldn't figure out what they were trying to achieve with that. At first I thought it was going to be a "let's show you the decay of the place" sequence, but there didn't seem to be that kind of progression? It just felt like padding. I wish game designers would realise that wandering through the same rooms several times while people randomly shuffle the furniture around behind your back is inherently neither interesting nor scary. The sequence needs to have an explicit purpose.

_Have a coin_ The premise of an alternate universe is intriguing & the jump scares were decent. I thought the Steam page mentioned "gas station"...maybe that's Gerry's & you'll be relocated there next. It's hard to comment otherwise because the demo had no discernible plot, except for the notes talking about people being between the walls with vague symbols on the TV. Hopefully there's not too much more of the PT-esque sequences but more actual story. Looking forward to the full game, I think.

The file location on the VHS tape makes me think this is supposed to be an ARG. A normal game usually wouldn't point you to the files. Plus, while they aren't full-blown ARGs, I think that games like Doki Doki Literature Club and One Shot (basically games where you manipulate the game files to interact with the game) would count as ARGs, albeit simple ones.
