A TASTE OF FREEDOM: Poland 2019 || DR650 Enduro Motorcycle Adventure

I hope this short film allows you a glimpse into my latest motorcycle trip. In autumn of 2019 I embarked on a 2700 km, 10 day journey across Poland. Wherever legal, I tried to stay off the tarmac.. In the north of the country I also followed the Trans Euro Trail (TET) for 540 km.

I had a couple of days off and decided to head out on my own. This time I rode north towards Poland, a country that is not too often talked about among overlanders.
I arrived there late at the beginning of September but the country was still blooming from its autumn harvests.
It was the right time to come here. From early childhood days I can remember its open horizons and less inhabited agricultural farmlands.
Poland had its days of scorching midday’s suns. But luckily the occasional pond or lake were never too far away and so my late summer days sweat was usually washed off at the evening’s camp.
A travel through this place can be turned into an adventure but society and its luxuries will never be too far away.
For me Poland is not only going to stay my second home, but also a place I am frequently considering coming back to. One thing’s for sure…this country has so much more to offer than some of the prejudices floating around would make you think..

Your videos and adventures are awesome! Fantastic editing and production. I love how you do great trips on an old DR650. I live in Colorado, USA and do trips on an older KLX250 and feel the lighter bikes just work better for rough/back country adventures. Keep up the great work.

Thanks a lot for your kind reply! IMO the OS-adventure packs with the OS-base perform quite well. I haven't compared prices recently, but they hold up since about 10k km or more. Obviously with the fully loaded 18L pack on each side combined with just the OS-base you well get some rubbing against the outer side plastics of your motorcylce.. I would say the weak point of my current solution (if you are able to truly protect everything from the exhaust heat) is how the load is transferred during a fall over.. If I would have a new bike, I would buy some sorts of soft luggage panniers to support the side plastics.. I guess it depends on how much you love your bike haha But the new OS-pannier set-up works fine indeed. it's waterproof and you can replace the inner layer, if something should happen.. The outer seams and the material hold up so far.. Only the underneath of the OS-base got rubbed up a little bit, but nothing which seems to decrease the overall integrity of the mounting loops..

Servus , mein 20 Jähriger Sohn ist ein Fan von dir, er hat sich jetzt auch eine DR zugelegt und ich helfe ihm sie aufzubauen. Kannst du mir sagen welche Reifen du oben hast bzw auf welche du schwörst? Ich selbst macht genau so auch Reise mit der Yamaha XT 600 und hatte damals einen Heidenau K60 oben . Tolles Video, hab wieder Lust zu Reisen((-:Besuch uns mal in Klosterneuburg, hab eine kleine Werkstatt und Schraube gerne

Hallo! Bitte verzeihen Sie mir meine späte Antwort! Ok, also Reifen sind so ein ewiges Thema nicht wahr.. Also ich würde für ein Enduro-Motorrad auf langen Reisen überlegen wie viel Matsch einem über den Weg kommt. Wenn es die Möglichkeit für Schlamm gibt, würde ich vorne Cross-Reifen wie den Mitas C21 vorne für den Seitenhalt empfehlen, die gehen auch erstaunlich gut auf der Straße in Wahrheit außer bei Nässe auf Asphalt, da muss man vorsichtig sein. Hinten hab ich gute Erfahrungen mit dem Mitas E09 gemacht. Die Kombi hält dann ca. 6000 km. Wenn man aber immer nur hauptsächlich auf Schotterstraßen fährt, sind sicher auch Reifen wie die Anakee Wild ganz gut. Wenn man mehr straßenorientiert ist, hab ich gerade sehr gute Erfahrungen mit STR Scorpion Rally gemacht, diese gehen auch erstaunlich gut auf Schotter, weniger auf Schlamm aber, bei Nässe auf der Straße sind sie aber ok.. Wo fahrt ihr denn immer so? Wir könnten ja auch mal eine Ausfahrt machen?

Das war der West-Ost-Teil, habe ähnliche Trails aber überall in Polen gefunden..
