Paw paw last year I showed your video on making your wine to a friend. He made 1 bottle in his empty spare bed room. When it was done he let his wife try it. She asked how he made it. So he told her... Next day after work he came home and found 30 bottles of juices from Aldies and lots of sugar... She SAID You git some work to do. So he made 30 bottles and got tbem all put in a broken fridge with a not DONT TOUCH till the due date... His wife and her girl friend won't stay away from there house now....🤦🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣

PawPaw, I wanted to share something with you I got into wine making just a few short years ago. I have crushed fruits, used complex recipes, and I have also just added yeast and sugar to store bought juices. And as a younger person, I have learned what I am realizing is the most important thing about the hobby: If it tastes good, drink it.

I got a 3qt jug of 100 percent Welch's grape juice, scalded an old 1gal. glass wine jug, poured a (whole pack ) pack of fast acting bread yeast. Today is the second day & its foaming like crazy!!! I'm shore glad you put your experiment on Y.T. You remind me so much of my relatives in South Alabama. My wife got sick & wanted me to bring her home to be buried by her brother and mom, so now I'm living in Southern Missouri, the Ozarks. I love your song Doing It Cheap. Hope that works out for you paw. If it runs too hot, you can always try the fish tank heater in a jug of water and snuggle up your whine jugs around it . You can dial the heat where you want it that way. Just wrap a old blanket or towel around the jugs and your good to go.

Started a double batch of Welsh's grape a few days short of 4 weeks now. Looked at it once at 3 weeks and the surface resembled a stale cup of coffee. Using PawPaw's recipe as I have done in the past. At 4 weeks I will most likely rack it for the first time, then refrigerate it to stop any further fermentation. Vessel I will rack it to has a spigot about 5/8 inch above the bottom of vessel to allow for sediment. Depending on how it looks I may rack it one more time and then enjoy it. Temperature in house is a constant 76 degrees and the plastic bottles are fermenting inside a cardboard box in the closet in the dark. This method seems to work for me. But I consider myself an expert on wines that sell for $4.99 or less. Thanks Paw Paw.

Absolutely love your videos! I recently made my first batch of wine using the welchs grape juice you showed.. I followed you step by step and it turned out great, but you are right. The hardest thing about it was staying away from it. I just happened t have a couple of those fancy air locks that came with some fermenting supplies I bought for making kraut and other fermented veggies, so I used the air locks on the wine, and since I couldn't wash inside that air lock, I cleaned it as best I could then I used Vodka in it for the liquid in the goose neck part, instead of water, thinking the vodka would sterilize the inside of the air lock where I couldn't get to it. I swear it was totally mesmerizing to sit there and watch the bubbles constantly coming up thru that air lock!

I did a batch with Mango Tangerine from Aldi. It didn't ever bubble. I actually gave up on it and racked all my other bottles. Bought a month later after I had forgotten about it I was making a new batch and it was in the box I use to keep light out. So I smelled. Smelled fantastic. So we drank it. It was way stronger than the other stuff and was taste. Everyone loved it...

Hiya PawPaw , I made for 1st time a batch of grape and cranberry a couple days days ago that's bubbling good in a closet hoovering around upper 60's to low 70's . After hearing what your daddy said I put a small electric space heater in there. It's not turned up as high as a July black car in summer time but thought I would experiment for less than a month for it to finish. I follow your advice more than anyone. Thats First time I've heard of real high temp to get it scootchin along quicker. Love your shirt and service in armed forces. Thank you Sir

Keep in mind I am dealing with a lot of newbies that may or may not know how to store the yeast. At $1.14 for a 3 packet strip of yeast, it is not worth the risk for the first time user. I have to make my instructions as fool proof as possible for the novice. With my method, the only true variable is the age of the yeast when a batch fails to work off.

Since I watched this video two years ago, I have been making my wine in my cooler all the time. I did find out that my heating pad needed to be put on high setting, since my cooler is in the basement..... I have found out that it still works better to just let the wine go for 5 to 6 weeks. I make about five bottles at a time.... I need to start my cooler/heating pad wine pretty soon. Don't forget the towel to seperate heating pad from touching bottles..... Bottles closer to pad may be a few degrees warmer, so every week or so I rotate the bottles carefully to equal out the heat in bottles....

Pawpaw if a guy who is using the metric system can make this for a few years now, I guess the recipe is easy enough :) I've tried several juices and it never went wrong. The orange juice was a kind of a fun project, because of your reaction :) And I agree it isn't a wine to enjoy, but to get drunk. It taste more like orange juice with a decent amount of gin in it (well a kind of). In the next couples of days I'm gonna make a few batches, because we have a few new rules to deal with. We are now in a so called 'partial lockdown' and the bars are closed at 20:00 hours and because of that you can't buy alcohol after that in the supermarket (they are afraid that people are moving from the bars to the supermarkets and get drunk at the streets). I guess they don't get it, because when you leave a bar at 19:50 you still can get some alcohol at the supermarket and get drunk at the streets too. In other words, it is smarter (besides the costs) to make your own wine, so you don't have to worry about the time :)

I set my mind to trying your method a little over a month ago. Followed it to the letter and I'll tell you what me and the boys over here in the land of sand find it to be fantastic. Now mine was priced a whole lot cheaper being subsidized by the dining facility. Keep living your best and god bless you and yours.

So paw paw some or the recipes I have seen says 10 days should be enough and the same recipe but I have followed ur recipe and usually leaves it for 4 weeks. I guess each individual has there own recipe the same as yours so what do u suggest some use a half packet of yeast. Tom me I think yours is the best. Thank You Tom Doyen Minnesota

If I thought someone else's recipe or technique was better, I would adopt it. Remember, I like DoingItCheap and try to make the absolute best tasting wine with the minimum of effort.

have had a white grape brewing for 4 weeks. Did nothing for two weeks and i thought something was wrong, but then it started to ferment. Just waiting for the top to clear.. hope its as good as the last batch

Sounds like either the yeast was old or your yeast went dormant I hope you don’t have a wild yeast there. If it’s a wild yeast you most likely will be tempted to pour it down the drain. But don’t do that convert the bad wine into vinegar

Hey Paw Paw, thanks for all you do, even for those that don’t get it. I’m going to give that heating pad trick a try. I know you mentioned don’t want it to get too hot. Exactly what is too hot? I usually try to keep mine over 70° and under 85°.
