In the dedication to Lucrece, William Shakespeare states that all his Works are for Henry Wriothesley, Earl of Soutthampton, including works he had yet to write. "What I have done is yours; what I have to do is yours; being part in all I have, devoted yours."

The dedication pages to Venus and Adonis as well as Lucrece prove William Shakespeare had a patron, which no aristo writer would have needed, and are a major proof that the man from Stratford was the writer. The sonnets are about a non-erotic devotion to a young man (Soutthampton) and a hyper-erotic obsession with an unnamed woman and were not published with WS' consent.

Good show. EQK needs to get a hold of Alden Brook's The Dyer's Hand. Brooks would align with this hypothesis of hers.

It is worth noting that an archaic meaning of “main” is ocean. So the phrase “the watery main” can be understood independently of it referring to a river in Germany.

Also Languet does not describe the water of the river Main receding. So I fail to see how Languet’s words have explanatory power in relation to Sonnet 64.

The Folio never presents itself as the complete works of the author. The actual title of the book is "MR. VVILLIAM SHAKESPEARES COMEDIES, HISTORIES, & TRAGEDIES." In other words, the Folio was comprised of his PLAYS only -- and did not include Narrative Poems, Sonnets, Elegies, etc.

My heart goes out seeing that she didn't have the resources to buy Hank Whittemore's The Monument.

Contrary to what the video claims, the phrase “those swift messengers” in Sonnet 45 refers not to letters but to thought and desire. And with respect to the phrase “watery main” in Sonnet 64, the video takes no account of the obvious possibility that at issue is an archaic meaning of “main” - “main” used to mean ocean. And because Languet does not speak of the German river Main as receding, I disagree with the video’s claim that Languet’s reference to this river has explanatory force in connection with Sonnet 64.

I am baffled by the video’s claim that Sonnet 59 makes more sense in the context of Languet’s letter of May 28, 1576 - ie makes more sense if the sonnet refers to the fair young man’s ancestors of 500 years ago.

I think that it was Mary Queen of Scots. The fair youth is Darnley, Mary's husband who was gay and refused to give her a child.
