Even though I no longer fly GA, (I'm an avid 75 year old flightsimmer now). I still find your videos extremely interesting and informative. If your efforts this year are anything to go by, your 2023 videos are going to be great for us! As a measure of informative, I always wondered whether it was pronounced HAYpenny or HALFpenny. I know now!

Thank you for letting us tag along. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023. 2022 was my best flying year in a while. It got off to a slow start - the logistics for the annual were a challenge, and I had a serious nose gear malfunction on a couple of landings - but I was rewarded with a spectacular summer and fall. I flew enough that it was starting to get expensive (#firstworldproblems 🙂), got several new airports in the log, had fun. Looking forward to 2023.

Quick question you have studied and passed IR(R) and Class instructor, and I wondered why you choose not to do the extra for commercial licence (something I am considering) but would love to know what your thoughts are around the extra studying and annual renewal requirements compared with staying at the level you are. Very interesting topics as currently I believe this sits you on the edge of commercial but not quite - is the extra required one step too far? Curious on your take. Many Thanks. Richard.

Hi Richard. Merry Christmas to you too. I began studying ATPLs about 10 years ago when I was in full-time work and it was virtually impossible. A full-time job as a BBC reporter is more than 9-5 unfortunately and it was too much. We now have Bertie and there is no spare time... It's something I'd consider doing when he's a bit older potentially.

Jon, I love your videos and remain a supporter of your channel despite no longer being able to afford to go flying. Your entire attitude is exemplary. However, without wishing to be a killjoy/wet blanket/whatever, I just wonder whether it might be worth acknowledging in one of your videos, after such a difficult year for so many and a tougher one ahead, that those of us who have been able to afford to become private pilots have been very lucky to have been able to join in such a rewarding endeavour, and that there are many out there - perhaps including many young people who aspire to professional flying but cannot afford to take even the first step - who would love be even where we are now? To restate, not meant at all as a downer; rather as a suggestion that - just a thought - a piece on how young aspirants without substantial means might find the support that would enable them to join the community in the skies. If this comment is inappropriate, please feel free to cancel me!
