@quillwoodworks5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, Dan. With the width of the piece, I may sometimes cut that first. But with the rabbets…I prefer to do them later when they’re not so long because I find it easier to get even pressure as I pass it over the blade or bit resulting in a slightly more accurate depth. Hope my explanation makes sense and thanks again!

Along with wood working I play guitar too. I really like that sunburst guitar. Had a roommate in the Marines in 1979 who had one just like it that I really admired. I have a tobacco sunburst Les Paul and a similar looking Fender Acoustic along with several others and a bass. The 2 I mentioned are my everyday go to guitars. I have a black, white and gray camo pattern Dean Dimebag Darrel V that I never play. Gonna have to change that! My brother got the one that's black with lightening bolts on it. We got them in a set from a guy who was selling them cheap so he could get rid of them and get something else. I also have a kit double neck, 6 string, 12 string that I need to paint up and put together.

Beautiful box. Can you explain the dados for the dividers a little more. I’m having trouble picturing/understanding why the back has through dados but the front requires stop dados.
@quillwoodworks2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The rabbet at the rear of the box sits lower than the rabbet in the front of the box. This is to facilitate the tilt-back lid. If I made the dados in the front through dados then there would be a notch left because the divider isn’t wide enough to fill the dado in the front. In the back of the box the divider is flush with the rear rabbet. I hope that makes sense!

Hi Steve. I use a Forrest Woodworker 2 for most cuts and a Freud heavy duty rip 24t blade for cuts that require a flat bottom. Thanks for watching.
@TedHopp7 ай бұрын
I was wondering how you were going to handle the thickness of the leather. Instead of compensating for it, you just let the bottom stand proud of the sides. I think that worked out very nice (better than a flush bottom, in my view), but I didn't notice you mentioning it. Was that design feature intentional or just serendipitous? By the way, your "playing" at the end won me over. ❤

Well done, sir. I like the extended rabbet to hold the lid. One potential opportunity I noted was that there isn't room for the bottom to expand. It's a small box, so the expansion and contraction of the bottom will be slight, but the natural wood movement may need to be accounted for. I greatly appreciate the time and energy invested in the video aspect also. That can be such a time suck. Top notch work all around, sir!
@quillwoodworks6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the nice words! With the bottom panel being nice straight grained material and also less than 2” wide, I wasn’t concerned with movement. But like you said, on a larger piece it would certainly need to be accounted for. I appreciate you watching!
