Emmanuel, thank you for doing such a wonderful version of this beautiful song. Your description of your amazement at his voicing and harmonies and the way it inspired you to learn it are beautiful. I am also impressed by your explanation of how you may sound more confident because you learned Bill's improvisation, while he was creating it in real time, "music of the moment" he always called it. You have a very refined touch, something necessary for pianists who wish to play Bill's songs compellingly. I also really like the tone of your Yamaha piano. It has extremely clear tone, perfect for this song. Thank you again.

I usually don’t like Bill Evans’s songs which are not played by Bill Evans, but your sound are wonderful and I like it very much! I think the atmosphere or the rhythm you make is similar to the origin. Sorry for my bad English. Thank you, from Japan.

Of course! I know Bill Evans' version and I'm sure you're nearly 100% accurate in your transcription. But it's quite amazing how you're able to reproduce the spirit of the song. I know it sounds weird but I like your interpretation even more than the original. Especially the tempo - in fast sections it seems you're a bit faster than Bill and I really like it.
@emmanuelsaridakispiano7 жыл бұрын
aimsoft82 Thank you! Please allow me to share with you certain information that I discovered through this process. The majority of jazz pianists usually have a preplanned arrangement for the melody. The reasons that you might like the improv part more than Bill's is because "I might sound more confident" than him. However Bill invented the improv in real time and I only practice it endless hours so it's not and improv any more. The more I practice it I feel/hear that the distance becomes bigger instead of getting closer! The genius of Bill Evans is unreachable and no matter how well I will play it, he's the master and not me. Now as far as imitating his "spirit" this is a very painful procedure. The only thing I have gain from this study is the arranging concept of his left hand. To conclude this, I think that the only way to understand or hear what I'm saying is to go through the process of trying to imitate him 100%. I personally hear that the sound that I produce at the piano is very "weak" and harsh compared to Bill's. If you have the spare time please check out my arrangement on a tune of his "The two lonely people" or my other videos on my KZbin page. There you can see my true abilities as an arranger and improviser.

I worked on this for about 4 months and then tore a tendon in my finger on my right hand. Just starting to work on it again. I am starting to realize it will probably take me a year to get anywhere close to your beautiful recording, but I refuse to give up. Any suggestions on how to practice it? Bill Evans was such a musical genius?
@emmanuelsaridakispiano Жыл бұрын
Hi sorry to hear that, hope you get well soon. I started practicing it at a very slow tempo splitting it into 4 bar sections and then slowly connecting them. It took me 18 months to achieve this result that you hear and see in this video. Now, ten years later, I feel more confident!
