What an absolutely stunning video this is. I absolutely adore Johnny Mathis and love this song; sometimes it is a very difficult thing to truly express all feelings, thoughts and emotions on KZbin as to how wonderful so many singers of my generation truly are; a case in point right now is the recognition and revival of the amazing Lionel Richie...but even well before him were so,so many greats. However,to the point....this particular video has utterly beautiful images and the added loveliness of Johnny Mathis singing the emotional song to enhance it all. I really believe I own all that Johnny Mathis has ever sung,at least released...and his voice is something very special. The very opening chords of every song immediately bring goose-bumps...... this video is a true example of that. So,if this is your first listening of him I'm whole-heartedly recommending you take a chance and hear much, much more. A very lovely video....a heart-rending,stunningly beautiful voice.

+geminiwednesday16 So beautifully said. Johnny Mathis means so much to me , as he was my dad's absolute favourite singer. Every Sunday, my mum would be cooking a chicken casserole while dad accompanied Johnny on each and every song of one of his albums. I lost my dad when I was 18...a mere 30 years ago... and I hear Johnny Mathis' voice and those comfortable, warm memories are all back with me. What a voice and what wonderful emotions he gave to his songs. The tears are rolling!

On this day in 1969 {May 20th} Johnny Mathis was a guest on the nationally syndicated television program, 'The Mike Douglas Show'... Three months later on August 17th his covered version of "Love Theme from 'Romeo and Juliet'" would peak at #8 {for 2 weeks} Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Between 1957 and 1984 the Gilmer, Texas native had forty-three* records on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, six made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Chances Are" for one week in 1957 and "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late", a duet with Deniece Williams, for 1 week in 1978... John Royce Mathis will celebrate his 84th birthday this coming September 30th, 2019... * Three of his forty-three Top 100 records were duets; two with Deniece Williams and one with Dionne Warwick... And from the 'For What It's Worth' department; the day Mr. Mathis was a guest on the 'Douglas' show, the Henry Mancini's version of "Romeo and Juliet" was at #10 on the AC Tracks chart, and two weeks later it would peak at #1 {for eight weeks}...

Robert I saw JM in New Orleans a couple of months ago, and yes he is a generation before me. But his voice filled that theater as if it was the Holy Spirit!! As a regular concert goer, I have never experienced this feeling anywhere, anytime ever!!!

I saw him last December in his Christmas Concert. He mixed in holiday favorites and classic songs. Nothing better than a live performance. He blew me away and I've followed his music from those first, early days. Glad we both got to see this legend in person.

@@RobertSilvestri86 Since my last post I have got tickets to go see his Christmas show this year!! I would also like to say that I am 2 generations off Mathis before I said 1. I have seen many many concerts. Fromm the Stones, the Who, Sinatra(towards the end), Moody Blues, Kinks, Elton John, Queen etc etc. Its a huge passion of mine. What Mathis brings in the way of his voice is untouchable, yes his orchestra maybe slightly flowery, but that is how he likes it and I get it. His voice cuts across ANY generation; he is virtually untouchable when it comes to his singing....To see adults across three generations crying an hour after his show is something I have never seen before. Again his voice was as if the Holy Spirit descended upon that concert hall....I don't have the words to describe that performance. Truly a wonder of the world.

Fifty years ago today {June 21st, 1969} "Love Theme from 'Romeo and Juliet'" by Henry Mancini and His Orchestra peaked at #1 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... And at #2 was "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival... #3. "Get Back" by the Beatles with Billy Preston... #4. "Too Busy Thinking My Baby" by Marvin Gaye... #5. "One" by Three Dog Night... #6. "Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat and Tears... #7. "In The Ghetto" by Elvis Presley... #8, "Good Morning Sunshine" by Oliver... #9. "Isrealites" by Desmond Dekker and the Aces... #10. "Grazing In The Grass" by The Friends Of Distinction... One month later on July 20th, 1969 Johnny Mathis' vocal version of "Love Theme from 'Romeo and Juliet (A Time For Us)" entered the Hot Top 100 chart at position #96, it then fell off the chart and seven weeks later on September 7th, 1965 it re-entered the Hot Top 100 at position #99, the following week it once again was at #96, that was also it's peak position on the chart and it's third and final week on the Top 100...
